Thank you all for your insightful comments. They are giving me plenty of ideas. God bless you and keep you. I’d be interested to hear from anyone else who wants to contribute to this.

John 1:1 NWT![]()
Im interested to hear a few cases that you could offer, Im sure others would like to see as wellThat is sad that they had to alter scripture just to justify thier theology. It makes me sad to think that so many sincere, God loving people are being lead into hell by the Watchtower organization.
I have a copy of the NWT. If you want, I could give you places in the NWT where it contradicts Watchtower doctrine. In fact, they were forced to release retractionary statements about thier own rendering of scriptures when it cotradicted them. Not even the JWs know what thier doctrine teaches.
‘the facts on jehovah’s witnesses’, and ‘how to respond: jehovah’s witnesses’ are good sources of info.![]()
JWs say Christ died on a stake, rather than a cross. This would only require 2 nailes. One for each hand, and one for each foot. Thomas, doubting the resurrection of Jesus, demanded to see ‘in his hands the print from the nails’ in John 20:24. The NWT rendering also uses the word ‘nails’, implying that one nail was used for each hand - which could only mean a cross.Im interested to hear a few cases that you could offer, Im sure others would like to see as well
I have heard this before but never asked a JW,do you know how they respond to it?JWs say Christ died on a stake, rather than a cross. This would only require 2 nailes. I cant remember if I heard this before.Matthew 1:23 properly translates Immanuel as ‘God with us’. Jw doctrine teaches Jesus isn’t God.
There was a thread about this on here a while back.Jws teach that the soul and body are not 2 seperate things, yet Jesus still warns not to fear those who can only kill the body but not the soul. The NWT is true to this message, contradicting thier own teaching.
Are you kidding? I didnt know that. This is serious error. They doubt the physical resurrection of Jesus. They say he was a spirit being with fake nail marks. This is what Jesus says in Luke 24:39, “…feel me and see, because spirit does not have flesh an bone as I have.”
Interestingly enough, they do celebrate one holiday, justified because it is not a gift-giving holiday. It’s Thanksgiving. Kind of strange that they’d kick out a religious holiday, but keep a secular one that was established as a common practice by an act of Congress.According to the Round Table with JWs audio clip I listened to, birthdays aren’t celebrated because its “Creature worship”.
And I suppose the same would apply to Christmas…since they don’t believe Jesus to be GOD, they don’t need to celebrate his birthday? They believe him to be Michael the Archangel…
They don’t do Thanksgiving or any pegan or goverment holiday. But they do Weddings and Aniversaries because Jesus did attend Weddings. Birthdays are not encouraged in the Bible and are a greedy non-Godly holiday. tommyInterestingly enough, they do celebrate one holiday, justified because it is not a gift-giving holiday. Hi y’all,
I’m sure one of you lovely folks here can help me out on this one: I was dialoguing with my JW friend about the Trinity (exhaustive and more than just a little like this :banghead: Lol). I was doing ok I thought, with the Holy Spirit’s help, but then he brought up some scriptures where Jesus tells the people that the Father is greater than he is and no one is equal to the Father etc (like at the beginning of John’s Gospel when Jesus is explaining this to the pharisees). The subject may well come up again as we continue our weekly discussions and I want a clear answer in my head as to how this would not contradict the concept of the Trinity where all are equal but seperate.
All help very much appreciated as I often struggle with these attempts at apologetics!![]()
Thank you in advance,
See this. It is from the summa.
Hi TobyLueSee this. It is from the summa.
Good answerThe JW logic only holds up if you forget that the trinity is 3 individuals, but one essence. Thus it is possible for one of the individuals, in this case the Son, to lower himself to something (a man capable of being tempted and killed) less than the other individuals with whom He shares an essence. This makes sense when you realise that one of the purposes of the incarnation was for Christ to demonstrate to man the best way to live. Since the best life for a man is one of submission to God, it was necessary that Jesus humble himself to the point where He could be in a position of submission to His Father and thus demonstrate to us His children what true submission to God looks like (i.e. always giving the glory to God, relying upon God for all things, spending much time in prayer etc…) Furthermore there is much mystery in the nature of the trinity and it is probably impossible for us to perfectly understand the complex relationship between Father, Son and Holy Spirit from this side of eternity![]()
What I got told by ex-jws is they don’t celebrate birthdays because John the Baptist got his head chopped off for a birthday present, and they think that everything in the bible happens for a reason.According to the Round Table with JWs audio clip I listened to, birthdays aren’t celebrated because its “Creature worship”.
They don’t celebrate Christmas because they believe that christmas has pagan origins. And I suppose the same would apply to Christmas…since they don’t believe Jesus to be GOD, they don’t need to celebrate his birthday? They believe him to be Michael the Archangel…
Halloween is another example of a major pegan holiday that many religions ignore and is obviously rooted with non-Godly beliefs. Jesus Christ ask that we remember him by his death and not by his birth. It must have hurt him so much when his good friend and relative John the Baptist had his head served on a silver plate on a birthday celebration for King Herod’s daughter. Birthdays are only mentioned twice in the Bible and it is the orgin that is non-Godly.What I got told by ex-jws is they don’t celebrate birthdays because John the Baptist got his head chopped off for a birthday present, and they think that everything in the bible happens for a reason.
They don’t celebrate Christmas because they believe that christmas has pagan origins.
It mentioned in the bible that the shepherds were out with their flock so that must mean that it accured more in October than December.
The Pagan’s celebrated something on December 25th to their Sun god I think, and they feasted on that day.
