Some Jehovah Witnesses came by yesterday.

We couldn’t let them come in because we had somewhere to be…thank God! I’m guessing they would have carried us into why they are right, and my apologetic-like skills are not good enough yet!

So, they stood at the door for a few minutes. They were very KIND. They ended up giving us a few materials:
  1. The Watchtower Announcing Jehovah’s Kingdom: Are Good Times Just Ahead?
  2. Suffering Soon to End (or something like that…it was a little paper pamphlet)
  3. Is Planet Earth in Peril?
I looked through some of these…they looked like it had a lot to do with an end to sufffering on Earth with “the end” including humans living on Earth…okay…so where’s the HEAVEN? So, they think the end is near, and peace will be on Earth, and they say the Earth will never perish… ?

My question: How non-Christian are the Jehovah Witnesses? You hate to call them non-Christians, especially because this group seemed nice, but it’s true. My mom happened to be there, and when they were finished, she said, “at least they’re Christians,” And I’m like, “nooo…they’re not”.

So how non-Christian are these people?

From Wikipedia on Jehovah’s Witnesses:

“Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that Jesus (also ‘Jesus Christ’ or ‘Christ’) is the only-begotten Son of Jehovah, Jehovah and Jesus are separate beings, and that the Holy Spirit is Jehovah’s impersonal, active force.[55] By dying on a torture stake, Jesus served as a ransom sacrifice to pay for each person’s sins. For this, Jesus is regarded as the only means by which to approach Jehovah in prayer, and the means of salvation.[56] Also, Jesus is regarded as head of the Christian Congregation. They also believe that Jesus was the Arch-Angel Michael before being born into the flesh, and as such, is a created being similar to the other angels.”

So, they believe that Jesus IS the Son of God, but, they don’t view the Trinity as persons, and that Jesus WAS St. Michael a CREATED BEING before having an earthly body. They are just not-Christian enough to see that one doesn’t have to go too deeply to spot the differences.

Did you lay witness to a J. Witness?

Mmm. Understandable. We don’t get them too often where I am; the last time they just dropped by to give us a pamphlet, and they didn’t want to talk (not that I asked – they just left after giving us the pamphlet).

Oh, yes. Very kind. They and Mormons preach Christian values very well, even without being Christian.

They believe the earth will never perish. They believe that only 144,000 JWs will actually get to be in Heaven, and certainly not anybody who lived on Earth before Christ. The rest of the JWs will have to settle for an (albeit glorious) earthly kingdom. And non-JWs will be annihilated: there’s no Hell either.
The Bible says that Christians have citizenship in Heaven (Phil. 3:20); also see Hebrews 11:8-16, Matthew 8:11-12, Hebrews 2:22-24, 2 Cor. 5:1, Heb. 3:1, Eph. 2:6, Col. 1:4-5, and 1 Pet. 1:4. This Heaven will replace earth as the “new Earth”, a transformed and glorified version of this one (see Rev. 21:1-5).

Just the examples I gave above show their pseudo-Christianity. But a pseudo-Christian is not necessarily a Christian. Disciples of Christ are baptized into God’s family, taking the name of the Blessed Triune God (Matthew 28:19). Since JWs do not believe in this Triune God, they are not true disciples of Christ – not true Christians.

Thanks for the (2) replies!!

What should I do with the pamphlets?
*I guess I’ll just burn 'em! *

You coud glace through the pamphlets so when the JW’s come back (and they will) you can honesty say you looked them over but weren’t interested because you are a follower of Christ, who is part of trinity, as is taught by the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church… which of course is opening a can of worms because they would disagree with all of that and want to discuss it with you… sooooooo… if you’re not up for the that, yep, burn it and pray for them instead.

And yes, they are kind. But atheists can be kind… doesn’t make 'em right. 😉

I think I’d read the pamphlets just to know how they see things. I think it would be fascinating to see a JW perspective from a JW. You could see how they see things.

Amazing book on responding to Jehovah Witnesses. First I have to say this…they are very nice people. Many are former Catholics. Take their pamphlets and pitch them. Because when you do, you are sparing someone else getting them and getting confused by them.

Secondly…they are non-Christians. Jesus is St.Michael and not divine. They do not believe in a triune God…not in Jesus, not in the Holy Spirit. Plus their NWT or New World Translation of the bible is not even based on the King James Version…let alone the Catholic bible. But this book by Jason Evert offers many good ways to evangelize to the the evangelizing Jehovah’s. I highly recommend it.
