JWs left quickly from my house today

They came looking for my DH (who is a JW but hadn’t told them he was one the last time they came by). To make them leave I told them DH was a JW. They looked puzzled at the fact he hadn’t told them the last time they stopped by. That time we were on our way out, so we didn’t talk to them, DH just took their magazines and that was it.

So, today, when I told them DH is a JW, they tried to get me, of course. They asked what I was, so I proudly said “Oh, I’m Catholic” and continued trying to get them to go away, so I said “Since you came looking for DH, and he’s a JW, I don’t want you guys to waste your time since I know you have to write it on your time cards”. Still, they tried to get me with, “Have you seen this new magazine? Or the last one we left? You’d be interested to see what it says about the bible. Many Catholics don’t know about the bible”

One of the men said he was raised Catholic (they were both elder men) and how his entire family is Catholic and how they questioned the bible all the time because they couldn’t understand its origin or the translation. The other man cut in and was telling me that we use a different version of the bible but that it’s not the correct one because the translation was wrong. So that’s when I said, “You know, the Catholics that don’t understand the Bible are actually those who weren’t correctly catechized. I studied the book, ‘WhaDoes the Bible Really Teach’, had a study for over a yr, attended all the meetings and assemblies for over a year, and it wasn’t enough to convince me that Catholicism isn’t the True religion because of how I was catechized”. They looked so amazed. They asked why I wasn’t convinced, so I just said that because I learned a lot about the JWs and saw how they used the bible, that it only strengthened my knowledge of my religion and helped me be better Bible versed for my own advantage. I said that it only helped me to be a better Catholic.

So that was that, they said thank you and to be nice, and make them see I wasn’t afraid to discuss the Bible with them, I told them they were more than welcome to come back any time they wanted, and they left. :dancing:

I can’t believe it was that easy to get them to look shocked. They couldn’t believe that their religion actually helped me be a better Catholic… hehehe

One more victory for the Catholics!!

I had a very good friend who was Jehovah’s Witness. He was elated when I told him one day “I’m converting” but his face really fell when I followed that with “to Catholicism”. I credit him with a lot of my conversion - studying the Bible to be able to refute his arguments helped lead me to The Church!

It’s a shame many Catholics are poorly catechized. But I hear you- this JW Iady had to bring three more of her JW friends after she saw that I wasn’t gonna give in. And I’m only 17 (Coincidence: She is my boyfriend’s sister’s boyfriend’s mother. Small world)

But like yourself, I hate to admit she played a role in my faith. By questioning it, she just made it stronger

Before I say good job, what did you do for those men to help them see the truth of Catholicism?

I can assure you, saying you are Catholic and JW classes only made me a better Catholic meant nothing to them.

They probably didn’t leave thinking “Wow, I never thought about Christ’s divinity like that” or “It was interesting to hear about real presence in the Eucharist”. They probably left thinking “Hmm, that person is not reasonable.”

Why is it a victory for Catholics if they left knowing nothing more about the truth of Catholicism? It is not our mission to get people off our backs. It is our mission to keep people on our backs and then helping them to be next to us and with us.

I was not there for your interaction, but personally I do not view that as a victory for Christ (and in turn for the Catholic Church) by the way you told it.

Their leaders teach them about trespass laws. I just tell them I’m not interested and not to come back. I then shut the door, even if they’re talking. They’re then standing there thinking “TRESPASS LESSON! TRESSPASS LESSON!” and go away.

this is making the assumption “catholicism” is clear for everyone to see like the equation 2+2=4 and implies those who don’t see this or leave the church are uneducated and stupid. It assumes everyone who leaves the church is not truly catholic … these assumptions are uncharitable and derogatory imo

Are you saying the poorly catechized are not Catholics just because they were not given the chance to learn about the faith as much as others have? I don’t think so. I know many Catholics that fall to other faiths and churches due to their lack of knowledge about Catholicism. Back when they were Catholic, they were devout. Thing is they lacked some vital knowledge in understanding the truth of the true Church and therefore fall to other faiths.

It’s a sad fact but I don’t blame them. Truth is catechesis lack manpower to educate every single Catholic (especially in 3rd world countries such as here in the Philippines). I don’t blame the Church also because it does it’s part. I think it’s the unfortunate circumstance of poor catechizing that leads to conversion out of the church.

I disagree,also. Sorry theors. There is no such thing as ‘a true Catholic.’ It isn’t a denomination or a clubhouse.

Anyone who comes to understand Catholicism, understands the revelations of Christ, Our Founder, and enters the fold. Together, we are Catholic, not true Catholics.

Those who depart, simply did not take the time to learn more within, before being influenced from without. They will eventually learn more of Catholicism from outside and review matters.

Now, me? I answer to ‘staunch Catholic!’ Is that the same thing?

I agree with you there. I had a run in with a couple of JW’s, the first time it was an elderly balck male and his wife, I forget what I said but his wife agreed with me which made him feel inferior, after that he left with is wife. He came back the second time (months later) with a white male that looked to be in his 30s. The first subject they brought up was that they were Catholic at one time, The black male told me that he didn’t understand the Trinity, and when he asked he was unable to get a decent answer from the priests, so he left the Catholic Church. He then started talking to me about faith, but I have to say **what faith? **If they had any faith to begin with the would still be Catholic.

**Another addition to this incident, I confronted the black male upon his return, right before he departed the first time with his wife, he asked me if I was in school. I replied yes, he then went on about; if you are in class and unable to learn from a teacher (teacher can’t teach), what do you do? You go elsewhere right? I agreed, but before I was able to explain he took off. When he return that was the first thing that I brought up. I asked him if he remembered what we ended with last, which he replied yes. I then took it into more detail and said look at it like this, If you’re in a math class and the math teacher isn’t teaching properly, what do you do? Go to another Teacher in the same subject(math). How would one benefit from going to an English teacher for math? He became quite flustered about it.
