no they aren’t turning into a “survivalist cult” no they are not armign themselves. they do not condone violence of any kind.i don’t know what your listening to or reading, but the info is incorrect.

no they are no longer telling their members that the end is coming on a predicted date like they used to. just because they put out that tract, “the end of false religion is near” does not mean that they are arming themselves or predicting the end.

they have falsely predicted the end many times in the past, and they no longer do this anymore. i used to be a jw and they never armed themselves in the past even when they predicted the end.

it has never been that way as far as i know, and never will be. they abhor violence.
only pay attention to less than half of what you read or hear.
 
Interestingly, and I believe Jaypeeto will verify this, they believe that the way to deal with Smurf attacks and other forms of demon harassment, is to say out loud the name “Jehovah”.

Yes, you are right. I heard that a MILLION times, it seems.
Just yell out the name, JEHOVAH, and the demons will flee.
And the demons were lurking EVERYWHERE, in Smurf dolls,
in Catholic holy cards, in Catholic statues, in Catholic rosaries,
in deluded Born Again Christians, in the batter of cakes baked by catholic nuns (so you couldn’t buy a slice of cake baked by a nun at a bake sale, because there might be DEMONS in the batter ).
Also, back when DISCO music was all the rage, the Society REALLY had a BIG issue with anything having to do with Disco.
Don’t go near a disco, don’t buy disco records, don’t listen to any Disco music in your car or on your home radio, Disco was
a Very Bad Thing. Demons were believed to haunt Disco clubs.
Homosexuals all had demons who caused their unorthodox sexual desires. Fornicators had demons.

I’m not denying that the Demons exist, they do and they are very malicious, but as a Witness, it seems like we looked for a demon behind every dandelion. It was ridiculous.
If at the door during “Witnessing”, the householder happened to be a Protestant minister and was out-reasoning us, he must have had a demon. I can’t tell you HOW MANY stories I heard of
Witnesses approaching the home of a medium or spiritist and literally being PICKED UP IN THE AIR and transported back across the fence onto the sidewalk (not thrown, but picked up by one of Jehovah’s good angels and smoothly transported thru the air back outside the property of the demonic householder).

I have to smile wistfully, and with some embarassment at having fallen for all of this hook, line, and sinker.
 
I have nothing against the JW’s [nor for that matter anyone]. They appear very peaceful [that said, there has been quite a lot of publicity in our local press about JW’s excommunicating members…and forbidding any existing members to communicate with the excommunicated, including their own children, tearing families apart], that said, they do appear a peaceful lot.

One has also to admire their missionary zeal. But I do find some of their teachings laughable. I mean, I do not mock anyone but the idea that the BVM had 10-children by Joseph. That is not even scriptural. We know the BVM was a consecrated virgin before she conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit. Once a consecrated virgin, logic says she remained that way for the rest of her life. Where is the evidence she had 10-children?

Furthermore, the allegation that the Lord never claimed equality with God: the fact ‘that was the reason the Jews wanted to kill Him’ completely elluded them. John records 'He claimed equality with God [the Father] 5:18. But the proof has to be the opening words of John’s gospel: 'the word was with God and the Word WAS GOD! I mean how less subtle can it get!!!

But the greatest one of all has to be the idea that the Second Coming has already occured: the Lord sneaked back to earth in 1915 and discreetly took the elite with Him. Scripture tells us He will come with great power and glory’, hardly indicative of 'sneaking back when no one is looking 😉

On encountering a cultist, then, always remember that you are dealing with a person who is familiar with Christian terminology, and who has carefully redefined it to fit the system of thought he or she now embraces.
Such a cult adherent will begin talking at length about God and Christ. He will speak especislly about love, tolerance, forgiveness, the Sermon on the Mount, and , as always, the out-of-context perversion of James’ “faith without works is dead.” These cultists will never talk about the essential problem of evil, the existence of personal sin, or of the atonement of Christ as the sole means of salvation from sin, through the agency of divine grace and the exercise of faith. For he is unable to put his finger on what he knows is error. He hesitates to plunge into a discussion for fear of ridicule b/c of an inadequate background or a lack of biblical information…

Bella, here’s the rub as I have heard it called,

They DO talk about evil all the time- as you can see just here in this small sampling discussed in this thread! Personal sin! Yes they talk about it.
They obsess over it. They disfellowship people all the time. They used to tell the whole congregation what the “sin” was, as far as I know all they do now is cite a bible passage that tells the story.

So, I dont agree with that part in your post. Unless someone here knows it better than I on this one.

I’m talking about the ESSENTIAL problem of evil, the EXISTENCE of personal sin.
You know how they view The Trinity? From (LGBT, 102), they say that “Sincere persons who want to know the true God and serve Him find it a bit difficult to love and worship a complicated, freakish-looking, three headed God.” this is taken from there"Let God Be True "(LGBT), it is from The Watchtower…
They aso say “The Trinity doctrine was not conceived by Jesus or the Holy Christians.” (LGBT,111).

Well Damascus, these are some of the things I learned from my classes in Theology. It is exactly true.
It is a cult, a strange one at that.

Jesus is so offended by these cults that claim His name…😦
 
I do know they reject the Trinity. Bella, I know a lot about them unfortunately.😦

But of course they are in a cult. No argument here. And of course Jesus cant be happy about all this. But bella, they are mislead.
The individuals in it are sincere believe me! They are not what you may imagine not that I presume to know what that may be in this case, but they are convinced everything they believe is biblical. Now, Predictions of Armeggadon are not biblical of course. And now that they dropped that habit they are hoping the newbies wont learn of it. Its still not clear to me how your post negates their concern over personal sin and evil things. They do worry over what they believe to be sinful things to the extent of being willing to die for those beliefs no matter how you or I view them.

Oh really Damascus? I know an ex JW, and she told me they absolutely HATE christians, especially Catholic. They absolutely despise us. This comes from a 9 year JW who is now in The Catholic Church. She also said they think they are the only “religion” who will be saved, and that everyone else is going to hell. she said the brain washing is incredible…

Damascus, that’s what i thought, that they don’t believe in hell because in the (LGBT,99), it says " The doctrine of a burning hell where the wicked are tortured eternally after death cannot be true, mainly for four reasons:
  1. Because it is wholly unscriptural,
  2. It is unreasonable
  3. It is contrary to God’s love; and
  4. It is repugnant to justice.
Then they say “It is a lie…a lie, which the devil has had spread, that the souls of the wicked are tormented in a hell or purgatory.” (You can live,89).

I don’t know why she’d say that, maybe she meant we were going somewhere…go figure. 🙂
 
Bella, as long as we know its heresy, we dont have to worry if they think we will loose our salvation.

We need to worry about how we can save them from harm!😃
 
I never thought I would live to see the day I would be speaking up to clarify JW beliefs.😦

3: hell is punishment and it is just punishment

Maybe your friend was a hateful person because JW’s “hating” Christians, espcially Catholics was not my experience at all.

We felt sorry for people who weren’t in “The Truth”… (JW’s) and we felt that the leadership of Christendom (the Pope… Priests etc.) were serving Satan and not Jehovah God. But as a JW, I sought out people who were willing to listen to me because I thought with all of my heart that I was right & they were doomed. (Armageddon is coming you know?!) I never hated anyone. Pity yes… especially if they seemed to be “nice people.”

And yes, I totally thought that we were “it” as far as surviving Jehovah’s Wrath. But here’s the loophole: JW’s believe that everyone who dies BEFORE Armegeddon comes will be ressurected after the “great battle” and they will be given a chance to become JW’s. Since no one in my family were Jehovah’s Witnesses, I used to actually pray that they would all die so that they could be ressurected afterwards. Can you imagine: Please Jevhovah… please let my family die in a car accident before you pour out your wrath.

How twisted is that?

Well, I can understand when someone is under the influence or “brainwashed”, that that was how you thought about your parents. Just thank God He waited for you, and you came home to our one church started by Jesus Christ. Remember, Catholic converts make the best Catholics…:blessyou:
