We can help you pray for this lady’s conversion. Just email this prayer intention to prayerchain@catholicxjw.com

I have just sent my prayer request for her!

God Bless your work.

I’ve had JW’s studying with me for almost a year now. I think I’ve been bumped up the chain so to speak cuz the lady who leads now seems very senior. Whoever she brings with her is always sort of subservient. She confided in me that she believes her husband is being groomed for bigger things…

I am very confident in my faith. I don’t know all the answers, but I’m confident that my church does, and with a little determination, I can find them for someone who needs to know. But I have also taken sort of a “live it in front of them” position.

I homeschool my second grader, and have been careful to keep our study to one hour. At first, it would ramble on an hour and a half, sometimes two. Just today, she began to study “what does the Bible REALLY teach” with me. I understand from some other sites that this is their new flagship of evangelizing. I hope to be able to stay ahead, now that I know where we will be going.

Next week, we’ll be discussing the bible and its 66 books…and the name of God, Jehova.

She told me tha lady she usually brings is not available, going on vacation, I suspect she will be bringing her husband.

Also, she has made several overtures at friendship, inviting my falmily over to swim, and BBQ etc.

I’d be very interested in other opinions, and suggestions about proceeding.

My adoration hour is 2-3 Sunday morning, and my husband’s is 3-4 Saturday morning. Sounds like I’m in good company…

also, she told me her mother was Catholic, and she and her husband spent time in the Lutheran church before becomming JW’s. She seems surprisingly open to reading outside material, and has brought me misquotes and out of context references to the church fathers.

In my mind I think, “bring it on!”
Thats always what goes throught my mind when i am about to engage in any type of apologetics conversation . 😃

On monday (august 22) ill have my first Apologetics disscusion with a JW. Am 17 but i know alot about my Catholic faith. I know the catechism good and even more so of the Bible and Church history.

During the past week i been studing about there belives and history and how to refute there arguments. But i still have doubts that i dont know what am getting myself into.

Should i be nervouse?

Of course you do know that there are 73 books in the Bible and they have been there since the Bible was first canonized at the Council of Rome in A.D. 382 under Pope Damasus I. Don’t you? 😉

66 books in the protestant bible so be careful!

Secondly “Jehovah” is only an approximation for the name of God. It is directly attributable to Catholic sources. Remind them of that!!

If you don’t know what your getting yourself into then Yes! be nervous. I would not entertain them at all. I would cancel the event as your age will keep them coming back for more and more. They are highly trained and will send highly trained JW apologists to speak with you after some time. Don’t think they are going to go away, they won’t.

No need for it my friend.

i been in other apologetics discusions before. Catholic friends tell me am good. Ive just never discused apologetics with a JW. Am going to try out. If things go south ill ask them to pray with me in the name of Jesus i hear that sends them flying.

Or extend a hand, look them in the eye and say “Come Home”.
Tell them that it is now time for them to accept the fullness of Truth as held by the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. The watch the smoke from their ankles as they run.

😛 that would be some sight,Lol.

Well i had my debate yesterday. It was about 2 hours long and i must say it was alot easier then i though it was going to be. I could tell that i was doing a good job because they keeped fliping from doctrine to doctrine. 👍 :amen:

I had to pass on visiting with my visiting ladies – I get migraines and I just can’t act like I am even trying to pay attention. My kids know that when I get one that they have to be quiet or mom will kill them. 😉 Really I would just torture them – again, that is a joke.

I am looking forward to seeing them again. I figure with the recent tragedy in Louisanna they will be at my door.

I do wonder how many true converts they get when coming at times of tragedy. I was particularly “evangelized” when our daughter died. Sorry, I am just too certain of my God to leave because of some pain and grief – I prefer to believe that I will see her again and that she is part of the Communion of Saints. She did a bang up job of returning my father in law to the faith after 40 years. He had a radical conversion --to total acceptance and love of the Eucharist.

Oh well, we will see. With school being back in session, I can spend some more time with them.

I did give them “Angel in the Waters” as gift – I know they probably didn’t read it, but I had told them how the book is such a wonderful conversation starter with the kids – and promotes a pro-life message, too.

I think of the similarities we have - I wear a chapel veil. I try to allow my husband to be the head of our home and spiritual leader, too. (I am still working at obedience to God and husband.)

Maybe that would be an avenue of discussion, too.

I’m having problems with a Jehovah’s witness on another website (a video game website, of all places!) It started when this 14-year-old JV copied word for word a JV pamphlet . I decided to post a comment about it, and the whole thing has turned into a war between four people: me, A roman Catholic high school seminarian, a Pentecostal (who didn’t know about the trinity, so I don’t think he knows much about his religion), an agnostic-type who thinks that only your motives matter and that nobody knows what the bible is saying anyway, and the Jehovah’s witness.

Anyway, we’ve been going back and forth about the trinity, holidays, etc, and he keeps posting watchtower stuff (he just copied and pasted it) and by the time I write something to refute him, he has already posted something else that refutes bible verses like “the father and I are one,” etc. ( I think it’s the same one Catholics4life gave us the link to!)

His latest attack is outrageous. He said that during WWII the Catholic bishops had “war prayers” for the german nazi soldiers.
Can anyone help me to steer him towards the true faith?

The guy’s last name is Garcia, and he said that he had cousins that used to be “hardcore” Catholics that now attend bible studies with him. ( ibet his parents might be ex-Catholics  ) JV’s are in my neigborhood, but everyone around here (whether Catholic or not) knows about the Jv stance
on the trinity and knows how to refute them. The Jv’s haven’t been doing so well in my town.

I’m really hoping that I can help him realize how he is part of a faith that was founded on questionable merits to begin with, not to mention faulty theology!

I need help! Can someone aid me here?

Well, the 20th century is not my area, but I can tell you that the phrase “German Nazi soldiers” is technically incorrect; regular German soldiers were not allowed to belong to political parties. I am sure you can verify this from any number of sources. German soldiers were certainly heavily propagandized and indoctrinated, but they were not Nazis.

I’ll leave the rest of your post to more qualified people.

That’s hilarious! 🙂

I would start asking him questions about his beliefs- go on the offensive instead of the defensive. Where did JW beliefs come from? What makes them better than the brands of Christianity that was before? Who started the JW ‘Church’? What right do they have to condemn other Christians? What authority and where did it come from?

I don’t think a 14 year old standing up for his faith is hilarious at all.

And why do you keep calling him a “jv”?? It’s JW at the very least.

I agree with Jaded. A 14 year old standing up for his faith is awesome. (And it IS a JW - not a jv) 🙂

LOL. Yea, I just HAD to comment on that one. What are we - a soccer team? (I wish. Then people would like us more. Although soccer can be pretty boring. . . sometimes you get booed. . . .Hmm, nevermind. Guess I’ll still be a jv, I mean JW, after all. Randomness over.)

Well, while you’re engaged- what do you think about the origins of your beliefs? How do you reconcile them to Christian history? Why do you feel God decided to transmit this information through the JW’s?

What’s this got to do with me being engaged? (or do you mean interested? I’m not. Just popped in to defend the 14 yr old who’s not even on here. lol.)

Yes, I meant interested. Interested enough to comment, anyway! 🙂
