Kagan's First Case as Solicitor General Was Against Pro-Life Free Speech

Washington, DC – And old saying reminds people that if they forget history, they are condemned to repeat it. For a national pro-life group, an idea of where Elena Kagan will go on the Supreme Court is easily seen by taking a look at where she’s been, and her first case she argued as Solicitor General worries Americans United for Life.

Perhaps I did not understand the article, but it seems to me that the Obama administration and Elena Kagan were trying to trash the amendment protecting free speech. Help me understand where you are on free and protected speech.

The results of this case, and what the administration was fighting against, virtually guaranteed the corporate take over of our political systems. It had nothing to do with ‘free speech’. Unless, of course, you believe that some speech is more free than others.

No, it was the only real decision that could be rendered.

If corporations do not have First Ammendment rights, then it effectively means that Freedom of the Press as we know it would be gone.

It would mean that while E.J. Dionne or Maureen Down might personally have Freedom of the Press, The NY Time or Washington Post, NBC etc… would not, and what they publish could be regulated by Congress.

That is NOT a position I would like to see as case law.

So either the First Ammendment applies to legal corporate persons, or it does not. If it does not, then Freedom of the Press as we know it dies.

Everything is not about abortion. That particular case was about giving corporations more control over elections.Do you think corporations give a hoot about abortion?

If the pro life movement wanted to be more successful it would be doing more to reduce the demand for abortion as well as working to prevent the issue becoming politicized to the point where neither camp wants to win the question.

The pro-life movement is viewed by the political powers the same way the “states rights” bigots are viewed , just another block of votes.

Stop abortion by working to value every life.

When our forefathers wrote the Constitution they placed life in front of our other inalienable rights … ** life** , liberty , and the pursuit of happiness. Trying to take away rights because others may use them in a way we do not agree with is wrong. Once the right to free speech is gone other rights will fall also. Look at history and look at what some countries did after taking control of the free press … once a government controls the press they control the people. The demand for abortions will be reduced when all people realize the dignity of every life. It is a sad state of affairs when we make it legal to kill another human being because it might be inconvenient to have the child.
One other point that many people are having a hard time understanding is that the Federal Government has certain responsibilities that are spelled out in the Constitution. Those that are not given specifically to the Federal Government belong to the states.

Still, everything is not about abortion. To decrease abortion we must compel people to embrace the value and dignity of every life.

Sometimes lost in that concept is that when we minimize the value of any life by comparing it to a life that is ascribed a higher value, some people see the discordance in that concept and then reject everything that follows from the same source.

A single minded focus on abortion sometimes gives people the impression that some people care more about the unborn than they do about the born. And that can result in things detrimental to the prolife cause.
