Katy Perry Battling Nuns in Bid to Buy Former Convent

Not sure if this is better placed in Catholic News or Popular Media, but here it is.

The Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary did a lot of good for many years in the Los Angeles area, so it is sad to see their decline. I hope they can come to agreeable terms with the Archdiocese. I don’t suppose it matters all that much whether Katy Perry or the boutique owner gets the property, which was a private home before the Sisters took possession years ago anyway.
 
I would not classify her attempt to win the bid as “battle” … She’s more sweet and at the most she’s trying to seduce them. I love her music! She most defiantly could be more chase!

Hmmm St Terese of Liseaux (flowers) or St Cecila (music) … Who should win such bid?

Yes, the battle is really between the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the Sisters. Katy Perry is just a potential buyer, but casting her as a combatant makes for juicier press.

Compare the aging Immaculate Heart of Mary Sisters here with our Carmelite Sisters in neighboring Alhambra, who are thriving by expanding their ministry of caring for the elderly:

I may have the wrong opinion going here, but here it goes. It seems to me that nuns are not very valued by Catholics, especially the hierarchy. Understandably, when there is a shortage of priests and nuns, the priests need cultivating first. Then when nuns get involved with the young women they are accused of pushing birth control and being anti catholic. I was watching an Oprah show with Lisa Ling exploring women’s professions/vocations. I was startled at how few nuns there really are. In our local parish, there is no promotion of the vocation for nuns; only priests. I’m wondering in the vocations of the Church are nuns wanted and needed. IMO I love the nuns I’ve meet … And ones that have taught and prayed with us in EWTN (you go Mother Angelica!!!)
