Keep asking for help but am ignored

Not sure what to do anymore. I bought a house full of bugs and I’m a bug phobic. The roaches have disappeared for the moment only to be replaced with worms in the carpet :-(. Guess I need to call the exterminator again this is all really discouraging. I had the house sprayed a few weeks back and cleaned twice vacuming all the nooks and crannys as well as putting boric acid down everywhere. In between running to my 2 jobs and yard working on the half acre lot I have I keep the place as clean as I can. It gets a sweep up and vacum every other day. Drains covered nt water anywhere no food in the house as I haven’t moved in yet. I didn’t see any roaches at the last go at cleaning but still lots of sow bugs or pill bugs as they are also called and now tiny worms. This morning at my apartment which I haven’t had time to clean much due to caring for the house woke up with a huge spider bit. that really hurts. I looked up online to see what kind of bite…my luck it would be bed bugs but this matched all the pictures of spider bites with brushing about the outer rim. I’m really sick of all this. It just all too much for me. I keep praying for help but all I get is more problems. I don’t want to move into a houe with roaches and worms. That’s why I was staying in the apartment for awhile longer to see if I could get the bug stuff under control. It will be harder to deal with one I have my cats there and have to leave water and food out for them. I guess I’m meant to live a life of misery and no happiness. The neighbors are also on my case about the yard though theirs is a quarter of the size of mine and I’ve only owned the house 3 weeks. 🤷
 
What does the exterminator say? Often the sprays can kill living bugs, but you’ll need another application around egg-hatching time and whatnot. Do they know what the bugs are feeding off of, or why they are attracted there?

Can you afford to have a cleaner come a 2x a week for the first month to help battle all this? You sound busy already, and your time may be better spent paying someone $20/hr if you are making $25, etc. Ignore the neighbors. I assume the grass is trimmed, and noting violates city code.

Were they revealed when you bought the home? You may have recourse if things are that bad and you were not told.
 
I’m so sorry about your problems. I would be going crazy if I were you. I really would seek legal advice. Whoever sold you this house knew about the bug problem and hid it from you. Also, make sure you pick up the boric acid before you move your cats in.
 
Oh, golly, I feel your pain. I had an apartment last year that had las cucarachas - UGH!!! There was an elderly lady in the building sweet as could be but she had Alzheimer’s and didn’t realize how out of control things were - she died last winter, may she rest in peace. Anyway I got out of there and feel so relieved.

I think you’re doing the right approach for as long as you can to not move in and put all your stuff in because that gives you the chance to deal with the bugs directly and fewer hiding places for them. Also to let any poison dissipate before you and your pets are there breathing it and all. But I know it probably feels awful having to pay mortgage and rent 😦 at the same time.

I’ll pray for you - it’s one of the most frustrating things and I felt so embarrassed when I was going through it, hence also very alone. :bighanky:

Oh, you may as well spread some diatomaceous earth around while you are trying to fix up the problem. It’s non toxic, and I’d be tempted to liberally put it… everywhere. Just vacuum well before you move to live there. It is non-toxic to both you and your pets- you all can eat the stuff, actually!
 
Exterminators cannot work in a one shot deal. They have to come a few times to get rid of things that hatch later. If your exterminator didn’t tell you this, you should get a new one. You might also want to go to the home store and buy some bug bombs to set off and then leave the house while they go to work.
 
Go for gold and get the house tented. Is the nuclear option for bugs. St. Louis is hot and humid. A bonanza for bugs. You can’t live there like ths, so go for it, blast ’ em!

Totally. Then have a once-monthly pest service spray the $#!& out of the perimeter.
 
I’d bomb the house, attic, crawl space/basement, spread pest control pellets thick in the yard… then clean everything. Rent a steam cleaner for the carpets…and repeat. You’ll get a handle on it. Mothballs in the crawl space for critters and such. I live on the deep woods and treat the yard every year. The spiders are bad around here and as big as you fist (wolf spiders). Keep wood piles, trash cans… away from the house and sealed. Cedar chips/mulch in the shrub/garden beds. Good luck.

I don’t know if you ever asked the title company or a lawyer about having the bug problems hidden from you during the sale. I don’t think you should accept this, and I am worried about some of the suggestions here to keep bug-bombing the house and even tenting! You are going to end up in a very toxin-filled environment in the end. You may not have any bugs, but you and your cats are not going to be living in a safe environment either. Insecticides are not benign chemicals.

I have no idea what “worms” are coming out of your carpet - perhaps they are insect larvae? Cockroaches have no such stage, but perhaps they are some sort of moth larvae. I would advise calling in an expert at this point. I know you say you have little money, and you are still paying rent on your apartment, but this is your health and mental health at stake. You need to know exactly what you are dealing with. The carpets may need to be torn out and replaced. Find a pest control company that is experienced in these problems and isn’t just going to throw poison around willy-nilly.

Your phobias may make this issue bigger than it should be. And acting out of your phobias will never give you peace of mind. Try to respond in a way that doesn’t play into your fears.

And please go to the doctor about that spider bite! I don’t know if you have brown recluse spiders where you are, but their bites can cause a lot of damage if left untreated. I assume you meant “bruising” and not “brushing” around the outside of the bite. If it looks like 2 fangs went in, it’s probably a spider bite.
 
You might need to pull the carpets up a bit and see why there are “worms” coming out of the carpets.

I again suggest you get in touch with whomever did your home inspection as they should have found bugs and reported that to you to use as a determining factor in going ahead with the purchase of this home.

I’ll tell you that I’ve never lived in a house infested with bugs, but every home will see some bugs here and there, there is not way you can keep every spider and every pill bug out of a house.
You need monthly service from your pest control guy, at least for maybe a year or so.

If your phobia of bugs is this severe, you need to get in touch with someone who can help you with this. In this world you are not going to ever find an environment that is 100% free of any kind of bug or insect.

I have to wonder if it’s more than the bugs, if you are overwhelmed with the responsibilities of being a home owner. It’s a HUGE undertaking and with it comes huge obligations to yourself, your mortgage company and your neighborhood and neighbors.
YOU are the home owner, and no one is going to help you, you have to fix this yourself. The previous homeowner doesn’t care I’m sure, not to sound snooty, but once a house has closed, they pretty much leave it in the buyers hands. Where I live, Arizona, it’s the BUYERS obligation to do “due diligence” for real estate purchases, here you would have to live with it if you didn’t have the home inspected prior to purchase.

What has YOUR real estate agent said about it? That person should be able to point you in the right direction of getting some legal relief if they feel that you were hoodwinked in this sale.

I’m very sorry you have a home with bugs, but there are all kinds of ways to get rid of bugs, you need to pick one and get on with it, so you can move in and enjoy your new home. If you want, I can send you some of the lizards I’ve found in my house out here in the desert, or maybe a scorpion or two!
 
Thanks for all the advice. I’ been finding roaches in the apartment since new folks moved above me the drop in from the vents litterally so I’m going to try and move into the house this weekend or next. I can’t deal with a roach problem on 2 fronts. I’ve been vacuming almost daily I don’t know how much that helps but I will call the exterminator again. I just wanted to wait a few days so I could have a track record of how bad the problems is and they can’t accuse me of taking a minor problem too seriously because of my phobia. There is a drainage issue next to my house where the water drains from my neigbors driveway into the yard at the side of my house where 2 of the bedrooms are. I need to get this corrected and think this maybe a big cause of the problem. I’ve been meaning to get the house blessed but don’t know how to go about it. The parish my house is in is very tiny and doesn’t have office hours. Please say a prayer for me this all driving me crazy. I realize i will always have bug problems and can’t have a bug free house but worms in the carpet are not fun to deal with. I can live with bugs for the most part in moderation and even enjoy camping and outdoor activities.

I never really felt alone till I bought this house and had to deal with all this stuff on my own. My dad is 70 so there’s only so much he can help me with. My brother in on the other side of the country and my sister while she has a good heart can’t be depended on.
 
Well the roaches have subsided but the sow bugs won’t go away. They don’t bother me as much as the roaches which truly scare me. Sowbugs are just annoying. I vacum and sweep everyday and keep everything spick and span but there they are just as stubborn as can be. I’m trying to move into the house this weekend or next. I did get the termites treated and made some progress on my yard. The only blessing there is I haven’t run into poison ivy which I’m very allergic to. I’ve been waking up a few times with strange bites not sure if this may be bed bugs in my apartment…that’s all I need another bug problem. 😦 If so they’ve come out of nowhere as half my furniture is at the house and I just started seeing these bites this week. I checked my mattress thoroughly and didn’t see anything but I had a cluster of bites this morning. I’m not ruling out hives either…I’m prone to those especially with my nerves as out of wack as they’ve been. I’m not ruling out ticks either I found some in my car. I wasn’t looking a couple were on my arm. I’ve been cleaning brush in my yard so It’s not hard to imagine how they got there. I’m hoping when and if I can get a drainage issue corrected at the side of my house some of these bug issues will disappear. The neighbor who sold me the house isn’t very cooperative. Part of his property line is at the side of the house and when I asked him about digging a drainage ditch…I wanted his permission he was evasive at best. I may just go ahead and do it because his sump pump constantly dumps water into the side of my foundation which will create trouble over time.
 
I used to live in Florida, so I feel your pain.

It was a long time ago, but we used to sprinkle Borax in the cupboards. Supposedly, the cockroaches bring it to the rest of their “den” and it kills off the others.

Other than that, pest control. I have no idea what to tell you about the worms.

To tell you the truth, I loathe insects. It’s one of the biggest reasons I move out of FLA., though it is a beautiful state and I miss it.

I was in FL a couple times. It’s a nice place to visit but I wouldn’t want to live there. I took a peek in the woods and turned around really fast.
