I find your disclosures rather exciting! So, you have a job you’re not interested in, in a field you used to find interesting but now do not…You do have a degree - in systems engineering perhaps?

The reason I find it exciting is that you now have the POTENTIAL to find something that you can really love. Don’t you find that the least bit intriguing? God may be giving you the nudge to really find an area where He can use you in a different way! 🙂

I wonder if you’ve ever thought of doing any missionary work? Your skills might be needed in other parts of the world. Helping others to get technologically up to speed might use your skill-set AND give you another field to explore, and if you are interested in travel, that could happen too. Of course it doesn’t pay very well, so you’d have to make sure your student loans would at least be covered. Some mission work does involve a small stipend, though.

Or there are so many things you could do… I think it’s a blessing that you understand and recognize that the field you assumed you would go into, no longer interests you. Sometimes people work their entire lives and only realize how bored they are when they’ve invested most of their lives and never been happy.

I think you need to TRY some other things. What electives did you take in college? Any of them get you excited, so you looked forward to the class?
TRJ is right - there are so many directions in which you could take yourself. Are you at all interested in teaching? There are several organizations that hire teachers with Bachelor’s Degrees and have experience in their fields and help them work towards certification. Teach for America is one.

Maybe it would be a good idea to see a career counselor. You could start at your college placement center. They may help you mold your career into something you love.

The greatest mystery about God is his individual plan for each of us. You are down, no doub about it, and God knows that. It’s not that he is not listening to you or helping you infact it’s the direct oposite. He helped you recognize you have a problem and brought you to a forum full of people that want to be by yourside to help you through this. You say you are alone, and maybe physically you are but spiritually we are all on this journey with you and praying for you every day. That’s what a spiritualy family does! So please, just take one day at a time. Really take a step back and watch a full day of your life and you will see all the blessings you have. God is around you everywhere you go. This rough patch in your life is temporary, also part of God’s plan to eventually put you where you are to be. You need to wake up everyday believing God has a plan for you. Just because you do not see it today or tomorrow doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Faith can get you through all…
Praying for you…

I used to find it intriguing, As time goes by and nothing changes on my end, it just seems less likely for any positive change. Part of it is because I’m a completely, “in the box” thinker. I’ve tried to come up with something else but just have never been able to think of anything I’ve wanted to do. Honestly, nothing sounds appealing. I’ve prayed and prayed to find and/or understand God’s purpose/will for me. I very much doubt my current situation is what God wants for me as it’s leading me to hopelessness, but he clearly doesn’t want me to know anything else.

As to traveling or something like, I just couldn’t afford it right now. I need to be able to pay my debts. Like most things, traveling has never been something I’ve been interested in very much. I know I need to try other things, but like I said, I’m a complete in the box thinker and haven’t been able to think of something new to try (at least something that sounds somewhat appealing) that’s cheap/free and I can do by myself. I wasn’t kidding when I said I didn’t have any friends. I just went to a technical college (got a true bachelor’s degree) but didn’t really take any electives.
Could you try things from a list created by someone else? Just go down the list and try a few, or every one (if you can’t wander through the list)?

For some odd reason, tell me if there is any connection, beekeeping just sprang into my mind.

I actually did beekeeping when I was a kid. The problem now (and I’ve looked into it) is that as tall as I am, I’ve been unable to find a suit that fits.

🙂 There, see, there is something you’re still interested in! I’ll bet you can have one custom-made, or have one altered to fit you. I thought to myself, “You’re crazy, why did you think of beekeeping of all things?” But that’s the Holy Spirit, or maybe your guardian angel to mine.

:getholy:

p.s. Just found this website: Looks like large bee suits aren’t very expensive. Boy does the world need more honeybees, so you would be doing a great work of service!

Bee Suits Cheap

Oh, here’s another one

Golden Bee Products

That’s so funny1

How did you figure that out?

Yeah don’t let the suit sizes drag you down. There’s gotta be a way around that!

I didn’t, it was an intervention from the Holy Spirit. I would have had no reason to think of beekeeping, but it just popped into my head like I heard it.

🙂

Man I love being Catholic.

Very cool sequence of events.

If this keeps up, maybe people could hire you to comment on their life problems more often? 😃

The thing is, it’s not just a short period of time or just something I’ve been going through recently. This is pretty much how I’ve felt for the last 12 years or so. Obviously, it’s been getting worse as time goes by and it seems there’s less and less to realistically hope for. What do most people in life hope for? A good career? Barring a miracle, doesn’t seem like a possibility to me. Starting a family? Again barring a miracle, doesn’t seem like a possibility to me. Owning a home? See above. Even if I took up something like beekeeping, that wouldn’t really help solve any of the above issues. Yeah, I still hope to make it to heaven, but in this life, I’m definitely running out of things to hope for.

Beekeeping sounds like a really fun, potential money making idea! What if you got back into it and then started advertising at local healthfood stores that you can teach others how to start beekeeping themselves? I saw a program about a beekeeper I believe in New York who made a very good living on teaching others how to get started/ trouble shooting hive problems. I’ve never seen anything like that advertized where I live but I do believe if someone did it would really take off.
Just an idea. 😃

Please go to your doctor and have him work you up for a physical. There could be a reason for your depression, I mean a physical reason, like low testosterone. Or, you could have a thyroid problem. Or, you could just be depressed. There is always hope! You have to risk wanting something out of life in order to find happiness or joy. You have to try something new in order to break out of your rut. But go to the doctor first.

Do you have an aquarium? People with stress or depression find fish very calming.

Next time I’m at my doctor, I’ll bring that up. I have an end goal in mind, such has having a career I (sort of) like, paying off my debts, having a family, having friends, etc but all that seems to start with coming up with a job/career I can do that would afford that. Since I can’t think of anything I want to do or can do, I can’t even get started. It just seems like I have zero choices.

Make an appointment soon. Don’t just wait until next time you go.

Thinking about your end goal…Work backwards and think of little actions you can take to get there. Can you get any career counseling from the college you attended? That would be one action to start with. I think you get stalled out by thinking that everything is depending upon that non-existent career idea. Start where you are and do other things to broaden your life. Make a list of stuff that wouldn’t hurt you to try. Not stuff you WANT to try, yet. Just stuff that wouldn’t kill you to try. Here are a few possibilities.

Radio controlled airplanes or helicopters
Swimming classes
Gardening
Get a dog or cat
Start an aquarium
Start jogging
Get a bicycle and ride
Kayaking
Fishing
Camping
Cooking
Sewing (yes, men can do that too!)
Writing
Golfing
Tennis
Volunteering
Ministries at church - usher, lector, etc.
Take art classes
Photography

It seems to me that once you start DOING something, your career choices might become a little clearer to you as well. Feeling trapped is never a creative experience.

First of all, listen to what Julian posted.
Second, start praying about what God wants you do to if you haven’t already. If you make it all about you, (I’m not saying that you are, this is just in case you are) then you aren’t going to have much luck figuring about what career God may be calling you to.

I’ve been praying about that for a long time. Not as much anymore. It kind of goes back to my analogy of leaving voicemails. When asking for the same thing over and over and over for years doesn’t work, eventually you accept the way things are and quit asking. Not to mention that the opposite of what I pray for is usually what happens. It happens so much I remember, during the last presidential election, that I should pray for Obama to win to give Romney the best chance. 🙂

I’m not in your shoes so I am hesitant to suggest anything for fear it might be wrong or even damaging. But I will make a couple of suggestions and take it for what its worth if anything.

Get some self help books to buoy up you spirit and attitude. Try several and then pick one to work on. These can be an enormous help. The library is full of them. Some work and some don’t. That’s why it’s good to try several before selecting one. The ideas in a good book will build you up.

And the other suggestion is to try to avoid conflict of any kind. I know this is a tall order, but conflict can beat up a person.

I’m not suggesting anything along the lines of spirituality simply because I know you’ve tried these (I hope), but God gives us all sorts of answers in different ways, and some are thru good books.

Just some thoughts.

“Sing out earth and skies, sing of the God who loves you.” hymn

Well, then maybe you are asking for the wrong things. But God isn’t automatically going to do the opposite of something just be because we ask for it, even if it seems that way. If God does the opposite of what you ask, that’s because it’s best even if we can’t possibly see how. I suggest that you listen to the song “Who you are” by JJ Heller. It’s all about trusting in God when you don’t get the answer you want to your prayer or you don’t understand why something bad happened. It has helped me alot. It on youtube, or you can download it from amazon or Itunes. You might also want to listen to “Who Am I” by Casting Crowns. It on the same places as the other song. And tell God how you feel. Tell Him that you feel like He either doesn’t hear you or is ignoring you. Ask Him to let you know that He is there for you, that He does hear and answer you. I get what you are saying about how it feels you are justing leaving voicemails and not getting answers, but you have to realize that God doesn’t always give direct answers. He may answer us through other people, or through some event, or simply by doing or not doing what we ask. And is all your prayer petitions? This kind of prayer is very important, but it shouldn’t be the only kind of prayer you say. Don’t forget to praise and worship God through prayer. If you do this, and learn to focus more on God than on yourself, than you may find yourself much happier. You would be amazed at how much much more happy I felt, when I started praising God every time I had to do something I didn’t want to, rather than complaining about it to myself.
Also, I think that you should talk to someone about this. Say a priest, nun, or brother. Or even a counselor or psychologist. If that’s not an option, then is there a good friend or family member or parent you can talk to? Make sure it’s something you can trust preferably a Catholic or a least other Christian since you are having problems trusting God.

Dear Bataar,

I read your comments and thought long about whether to reply. I prayed, and I am now answering to you very directly. I hope that you will not be offended, for the following words come out of my heart.

I can feel your loneliness, your hopelessness, yor emptiness and your despair.
I understand that you cannot feel God’s presence right now. You are reaching out to our Heavenly Father, but He does not seem to answer.
I know that you are not kidding when you write that you have no friend at all.

Listen, dear Bataar, I am in a similar situation like you. The circumstances are different, the reasons also. But the outcome is almost the same. - Except one point : I have been one step ahead of you. Not many days ago I stood on a very high balcony, ready to jump. For me that seemed to be the only solution to end that life in despair!
But just before I made my last step towards the end, there was one thought that suddenly overwhelmed me. It was a picture of Jesus. The tortured Jesus. The son of God who suffered, so that you and I could be reconciled with our Father in heaven.
Dear Bataar, In that situation I became extremely aware that Jesus was beaten for me. He was whipped and the soldiers pressed a crown of thorns on His head. Can you imagine the pain? Then they took a reed and began to beat Him on the head. (Mat. 27:29,30)
I became aware that this pure and loving Son of God endured all this incredible abuse for me!! - I fell on my knees and asked Him to forgive me. Because I was about to show Him that I did not appreciate His torture, His sacrifice for me. If I would have committed the suicide, I would have rejected His love for me. - Do you understand what I mean, dear Bataar?

Jesus loves you as much as He loves me. He died for you, He endured the pain for you. And He is now watching you, just like He is watching me, if you are willing to show Him that you love Him, too. The only way to do this is to take your cross and carry on. Despite the hopelessness, the loneliness, the despair. Bataar, show Him that you are willing to endure your torturous life for Jesus in return! Jesus did not give up. He did not run away. He endured up to the end.

I am trying to carry on. Jesus is literally the only real friend I have.
If I can carry on, you can do the same.

I will pray for you, and I hope that you think about what I wrote.
Love,
small sister

Thank you for your post. I realize that you wrote it for the OP, but it helped me too. I’m not in the same situation as you and I never attempted suicide, but I struggle sometimes with depression, despair, and a strong desire to be DONE with this life and I might have attempted suicide were it not for my fear of hell and my love of God and the knowledge that such an act would cause such harm to my family whom I love and who love me. You post made me realize how much Jesus, my God, loves me, and how much He deserves my love. It gave me motivation to keep pushing through this life. Thank you! And if you ever need encouragement or just someone to talk to, just message me. EDIT:
Thank you Jesus for saving the woman. Thank you for showing her Your love, and thank you for stopping her from committing suicide, for such an act that could have eternal consequences. Please help her Jesus, our Lord, our Love, our Savior, our Redeemer. Amen.

Thank you Jesus for saving small sister. Please give your comfort and strength to all who are discouraged and despondent.
