The other trick he’s adopted because of something we learned about Pope John Paul II, is to have something nice planned to look forward too in the short term. He always plans once a week to go to town for Vietnamese even if there is no one to go with, because he love Viet food. Another one is to look for weekend holiday discounts that can make a two night trip to the beach or mountains just to get away from the house.
We had read somewhere that Pope John Paul would struggle with crankiness and dismal feelings when he didn’t have anything coming up to look forward to. You can imagine that too. Being Pope is not something most Popes have aspired too and it’s a difficult and lonely cross to bear.
Anyway, I’ll say a prayer for you right now. It’s never as difficult as one might think to give the soul a lift up from the doldrums. It’s nearly always the little things that make the first stage of the shift.

Bataar, I’m so sorry to read about your loneliness and pain and I feel it from your Mums point of view too as I have 2 grown children with Aspergers. My son is 22 now, younger than you I think, but he struggles along with so many people in this same situation. He has thankfully got a couple of social circles because the Autism Association in our town runs a computer club (they play games together every Thursday night) and a Recreational Group for older Aspergers people. He’s had so many mis hits with reaching out in friendship too but he’s come to realise he’s more comfortable to socialise in groups that are devoted to some cause or goal… rather than straightout friendship. I must say, I’m better in that way also.I’ve been praying about that for a long time. Not as much anymore. It kind of goes back to my analogy of leaving voicemails. When asking for the same thing over and over and over for years doesn’t work, eventually you accept the way things are and quit asking. Not to mention that the opposite of what I pray for is usually what happens. It happens so much I remember, during the last presidential election, that I should pray for Obama to win to give Romney the best chance.![]()
