If you like country music, I would imagine you will like the Burns documentary. He is a documentary genius.

I remember reading his ‘jazz’ series got a lot of things wrong.

I never say the jazz series.
I know that Burns’ series on baseball and on the Civil War was right on the nose.

Not a fan of Burns politics but still he does do good documentaries. His Vietnam series was off but think that is to expected. Prohibition may have been a little slanted too. Watch both.

I liked his national park series, probably one of my favorites… Also watched Dust Bowl .I saw parts of the West, Civil War, Baseball, The War and Jazz and need to rethink whether to go back and watch.

I just watched the first episode. It was great! I’ll watch the others if I can fit it in.

Agreed - Ken Burns has unique talent.
It’s a shame he wasted it on ‘Country Music’, an oxymoron if ever there was one…
Maybe if you watched the documentary, Ken Burns’ unique talent can help you gain an appreciation for the music.

Not a chance…the alleged ‘music’ itself could be used as a torture device…it’s actually painful in a way to be forced to listen to it.

Didn’t see the first week, but watched last night. Info about Charlie Pride was interesting! Can’t wait until they get to George Strait!

In a way, the first week was best. Like all history, there are a lot of good lessons to learn from it. It is arguably the genesis of all American music, except jazz, and even that was a sibling. It portrays why country music is art. I get not everyone likes all types of music, just like not everyone likes all types of art or literature. But is is no less simple than contemporary art is meaningless.

I find it fascinating all the rock and pop musicians who were reflecting on the value of its contribution to American music (and even British, in the case of the Beatles).

🤣🤣🤣 Your post about being tortured flashed me back to a scene from that very funny movie, “Mars Attacks”…

(I’m not a fan of Country Music, but am liking the Ken Burns documentary).

I watched the entire series within a couple of days. Was pretty good.

I am not much for country music, however I do appreciate musicianship in whatever form it comes in for the most part.

Good Bluegrass players certainly have good musicianship. The studio musicians who can sit and play whatever music is thrown in front of them have it too.

He is in the last episode, 8.

We just finished watching the series on Hulu over this past week. For people that don’t like Country Music, you probably still won’t like it. 😉

But for those of you that like it, it is a fantastic series. The thread that runs through all of country music, old and new is explored. I have found “new” people I will search for and listen to. And learned a lot of interesting things about singers and the songs.

I was pretty much in tears for most of the last episode. It was like visiting family, and remembering why we loved them.
