Kenite Hypothesis

The Kenite Hypothesis is a hypothesis about the origins of Yahweh among the Israelite’s that is quite popular among many OT scholars. Basically the hypothesis goes that Yahweh wasn’t originally the God of the Hebrew’s, but that he was originally worshiped by the Midanites and Edomites. Slowly he was transmitted to the north and adopted by the Hebrews to become their national god and there may be some evidence for this tradition in the scriptures (Deuteronomy 33:2, Habakkuk 3:3-7, Judges 5:4, Isaiah 63:1). Scholars have noted that the importance of Mt. Sinai is odd for a people from Canaan, and that this may be evidence that the Midanite’s may have believed Yahweh lived or dwelled on Mt. Siani and worshiped him there. What are we as Catholic’s to think of this? Is there any view and/or argument against it?

According to the Story of Salvation, God
chose Seth, Adam’s third son and then
Noah, Seth’d descendant, who, with his
family survived the Flood. Next he chose
Shem as the favored one among his
brothers Ham and Japheth from whom
Abram came into being and thru a
promise, Isaac was born, who inherited
the Promise that thru Abraham the
world will be blessed… Isaac had twins
one Esau and the other Jacob, and thru
a promise “the older shall serve the
younger”: Jacob got the birthright and
blessing from Isaac, and Jacob, later
called Israel(One who struggles w/ God),
He became heir of the Promise by God
to Abraham that he would inherit the
Promised Land of Canaan, and so it
was Jacob and his whole family moved
to Egypt, to avoid starvation from a
severe famine and after 430 years,
during which a new Pharoah, who knew
not Joseph, Jacob’s favorite son who
predicted the Famine, he oppressed the
Israelites and made them slaves in all
kinds of heavy labor. God chose Moses
to lead them out of the Bondage of
Egypt, and to him God gave the promise
that One who is like him shall appear
and Save His people from sin, so after
about 2000 yrs. Christ, the Son of David,
came, who was, as prophesied by Isaiah
7:14 born of a Virgin, Mary and He prov-
ided the Redemption that the Jews were
longing for thru the sacrifice of Himself
on the Cross, more than that he Rose
again and ascended to heaven and sits
at the Right Hand of the Father, and
who will Come Again to Judge the
Living and the dead OF ALL NATIONS,
b/c He is the Desire of Nations, who
saves both Jew AND Gentile who be-
lieves in Him…
