There is currently a temporary ban on the discussion of evolution in this Forum. See the stickies at the top of this Forum: Temporary Ban on Evolution/Atheism Threads.

Discussion of evolution is allowed, within limits, on the Water Cooler/Back Fence Forum but do read the relevant stickie first. You may want to repost your question there, though I would omit any mention of Kent Hovind if I were you. That way the discussion will focus on evolution rather than on Mr Hovind.

Sorry I didn’t realize that. But if you don’t mind my asking- why is it banned?

Why was there a banned books list to begin with? Because the public is not able to think or ask for themselves without direction.

The official reason is here:

forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=408684

I have my own views on what the real reason is, but can’t say in case the thought police are watching!
Hey, don’t think only the atheists lose because of this! I’d love to discuss my views on theistic evolution, and the argument from design, and the reasons God might not exist as much as you. The discussion was honestly allowed by the mods for a good time, which is why I think their reason for banning the topics is genuine. Even if they were allowed, my prediction is >50% of the threads on the topics would be closed because of the “no converting Catholics” rule. I am 99% sure I know your “real reason” anyway.

I would like to discuss it on this site, but I guess we can’t.

‘Within limits’

Why should there be any limit to something that is supposedly ‘true’?
Apropos of nothing - if there were a forum for a religion that taught the flat earth hypothesis as fact, they might decide to ban or limit discussion of the true shape of the earth so that their members were not exposed to the fact, supported by an abundance of evidence, that a major aspect of their religion was profoundly wrong.

But I don’t know what the rationale is here in CAF. I’m sure it’s sound though. After all, who are we to put Mod under the microscope? We just trust that He is right and good, and don’t presume to question His judgement.

I read the sticky but it didn’t explain why
Before you post on evolution please understand that there are six criteria with which you must comply.

  1. *]You may propose anything you want as long as you do not insult someone else, present or not.
*]You may disagree, but you may not offend.
*]If you disagree follow this simple example. “I disagree with this point, because of this.”
*]You must keep in mind that you are discussing theories. Therefore, no one should be telling anyone else that they are wrong; unless you can offer proof positive that a specific statement has been proven wrong.
*]Scripture must be used consistently with the best biblical scholarship available. If you can cite the scholar, that’s even more helpful.
*]If you’re not a scholar do not attempt to present your interpretation of the scriptures as scholarship. Explain that this is your understanding or your believe concerning this or that passage of scripture.

This will minimize some of the intensity of the discussion. Remember, this is not the scriputure forum. Stay on the subject of evolution, don’t derail with biblical exegesis.

    Seems reasonably clear to me.

  1. oh that wasn’t the sticky i read.

It is from the Water Cooler/Back Fence forum, not the Philosophy Forum. See: Back Fence.

If you want to discuss evolution then I suggest that you open a thread there.
