Hi Everyone.

Needed your kind advice on the following situation.

I am a Syro Malabar Roman Catholic from Gujarat dating a Jacobite (Bhava Kakshi) Girl from Mumbai.
Our families have met & all formal meetings have been completed. Both families have decided for wedding.

I wanted your advice on how the procedure will be.
  1. Will the Girl has to be baptized in my church again…?
  2. Can engagement take place in their Jacobite Church & wedding in my Catholic Church…?
  3. What will be the set of documents that has to be exchanged between churches…?
  4. Can the girl and her family celebrate the Eucharist in my church on day of my wedding…?

These sound like very technical questions that only your priest can answer.
I encourage you to discuss the questions with priests from both churches, so that there will be no uncertainties.

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage.

I believe that Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church of India has valid bishops and sacraments like the Syro Malabar Catholic so Catholic wedding or reception of Eucharist will depend on the permission of the Jacobite sacramental discipline.

CCEO 831.2. The marriage is to be celebrated before the pastor of the groom, unless either particular law determines otherwise or a just cause excuses.

CCEO 834.2. If, however, a Catholic party enrolled in some Eastern Church celebrates a marriage with one who belongs to an Eastern non-Catholic Church, the form for the celebration of marriage prescribed by law is to be observed only for liceity; for validity, however, the blessing of a priest is required, while observing the other requirements of law.
