is killing crickets a sin? I ask this because at work, we have to clean out the cricket bin. literly, theres probably 500 crickets in thease bins, and if i just sweep up all the crickets in one corner, mostly deads ones, then throw them in the trash, wether there are dead or live ones in there, is this a sin? i could seprate all the live from the dead, but im not jokeing or exadurating, when i say, it would take literly 45 miniuts to an hour when i could have the work done in 5 miniuts… im just wondering. however, i am trying to improve. im useing a thing of tweezers to try to seperate the live from the dead… but today at work, i coudlent get everything done that i was supoed to because i was so concernd with sining… so what do you think? is this a sin? is it mortal or venial?

also, is the following a sin. and if so, is it mortal or venial?

I was siting down with my mom doing math homework. i dident want to sit there forever and get her help, i was just tired of it. she frustrates me a lot doing homework, and i get annoyied and agatated. always have since i was a little kid…why? i dont know exactly on how to word it. but anways…it kind of angers me sometimes. and today, i think i got just so frustrated with her and i realised that i said the word “Jesus” , and i said it with an angry voice. and then i imedelty realised what i just said. i realised that i just said the lords name in vein. ithink? im not entirely sure. but i dident mean to. i remember the moment after i said that i tuned out my mom talking and thought to my self…"i did not just do that 😦 " and i became sad, because thats something that i try so hard to avoid saying. and i usuely never EVER do!. i wil say oh my gosh, instead of , oh my… you know…so im just wondering if this is a sin that i need to confess to a preist, i dident pre-mediate it or anthing… im confused 😦

I could be wrong :D, but I really don’t think that killing a cricket or even many crickets is a sin. I haven’t seen anything in the Bible or Ten Commandments that prohibits it. I think you are remembering an “old wives tale” that is actually a superstition and that is a sin. (suprstition)

Mankind was given dominion over all creation.

Crickets CAN carry disease and ruin things made of cellulose, including wood items and paper.

However, killing any creature just for the joy of it, including roaches and crickets, is a sin.

I doubt it being a sin. BUT I have good news for you…take a paper bag with you. Dump the bin in the paper bag and secure it. When you leave work find a place to release them. The living will appreciate it…the dead will be a meal for birds.🙂

What about this…when you realize you said something…say something like, “Jesus please forgive my hastey words”.

I hope this helps

I can say with certainty that killing crickets is not a sin. There’s a Buddhist sect that doesn’t believe in killing bugs, though I don’t know how well it works out for them. 😉

Taking Jesus’ name in vain, unthinkingly, in a moment of frustration, would count as a venial sin. You can add it to your list for the next time you go to confession, but you don’t need to run out and confess it right this minute, or obsess about it. Just be mindful.

i dont kill them for the fun of it, i throw them in the garbage with the dead ones (thus leading to there death) becaues its faster and convienent and less tedious. the omly tthat bothers me is that could it technicly be considerd a distruction of property or steeling because each individual crickit cost 10, or 11 cents???

I wasn’t too sure what the “cricket bin” you were talking about was.

Are you working for a tackle and bait store or something similar that sells live crickets as bait or for another reason?

Is separating the living crickets from the dead part of your job?

If it is, and you didn’t do so, THEN it’s the sin of “short measure”, that is, not fulfiling your contractual duty.

think something simular to petco / petsmart kind of thing. simular to that. whats part of my job is to clean the cricket bins, and take out and remove all of the dead ones…

If you just shake them all in a paper bag, won’t the live ones jump out and the dead ones stay in? 🤷

If I get one day in purgatory for every bug splattered on the front of my car, I’m in for a long long long experince there.

Nope…well maybe a few:)
Put the bin inside the bag.

If they are laying with the dead…they probably aren’t very active.

It is NOT a sin to kill insects.

Sounds to me like the sin is not in killing the crickets, but not doing your job properly.

At the very least, I’d ask your boss the proper way to clean out the cricket bin. The you’ll know what’s expected of you and probably a better way of doing it.

haha! You, Me, and everyone else here that drives a car

Part of the stewardship that God gave us over the earth and its nonhuman creatures is the power to determine when creatures should live or die. We “judge” them, so to speak.

Think about going out to harvest a field of potatoes, for example. You can’t get the potatoes to eat without digging up the plants and killing them. But on the whole, there are a lot more potato plants in existence since we started raising them, and people and animals also get to eat a lot of potatoes.

Assuming they can get the land or a pot, no human has to get any other human’s permission to decide to plant potatoes or to decide to dig them up. Potato creatures are under our power. Hopefully, we use this power for good.

So you are selling crickets for animal food or bait at your workplace, yes? The people who raise these crickets, and the people who own the store, and you, have decided that the destiny of these crickets is to be born and to die in the service of helping other animals live, or for indirectly finding food for humans to eat. These particular crickets are going to die, so if they die in the dumpster it’s not much different. They will die quickly and not suffer, whether in the dumpster or in some fish’s mouth.

On the bright side, farm-raised crickets get fed on a regular basis and don’t have to flee predators all their lives. They get more chances to breed than wild crickets. They live happy cricket lives (as much as crickets can be happy, with their tiny brains).

If you dump the dead and live crickets outside, you’re going to have to make a judgment about that, too. You have to leave them somewhere that they have a reasonable chance of not dying from cold or hunger, and where they’re not likely to overpopulate the area. You don’t have to do a habitat study or anything, but you can’t leave them all in the same place or in the middle of a sea of concrete. You also have to remember that they aren’t wild and aren’t used to the rigors of life out there, so they probably won’t survive long in the wild.

You don’t need to overthink this; you just have to think like you’re a farmer and steward of God’s resources and creatures. What’s the most efficient and most just thing to do, bearing in mind that you’ve agreed to obey your employer? Figure it out, do it, and don’t worry yourself about it too much.
