Killing Patton/Bill O'Reilly-Martin Duggard

I searched to see if a previous thread had been started about this book, but nothing matched.

I just read this book and really enjoyed it. I have read all the books in the Killing series except for Killing Reagan and the new one about Japan and the war in the Pacific.

Before learning about this book I did not realize there was any controversy about the death of General Patton. Once I started the book I found it hard to put down. My father was a WWII vet and fought against Nazi Germany in Europe. He was in the Army. I wish now I would have asked more about his years spent over there. This book
made one aware of all the atrocoties of WWII and how evil Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin were. In this book you learn all about the roles of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin against the Nazis and also Generals Patton, Bradley and Montgomery.
As evil as Stalin was, I am not sure Hitler could have been defeated
without the help of Russia.
For history buffs of WWII or American history I highly recommend this book. It is one of my favorites in this O’Reilly series. I hope they will make it into a movie like they did the other books in the series. I remember seeing the movie Patton with George C. Scott years ago, butremember very little of it. Patton seems like he was larger than life, but he did have his enemies.

So I was curious to hear the thoughts of others who might have read this book. I thought it was interesting that Patton chose Catholic churches to enter and pray in before certain battles even though he was Episcopalian.
I have not read many military books, but it makes me realize the bravery and courage these soldiers need who fight for their countries. I am a female and I admit, I couldn’t face the dangers these soldiers face.

I have not read anything other than the “Killing Kennedy” book, but I did hear good things about the Patton book and plan on reading it. My husband read, and loved, the Reagan book, by the way.

I think that since history is Bill O’Reilly’s thing, he makes sure he does his research on whatever topic he is writing about.

My father was also a WWII veteran, ( a POW,mas a matter of fact) and I wish I had thought to ask him many things about his service, but I was a young woman when he died, and he was a quiet man.

I understand. My Dad spoke very little about his war years. He helped liberate one of the concentration camps and told me a few things, but said he did not want to ever talk about that again. So I just never asked questions about anything else.
I saw the movie on FOX Killing Reagan and liked it. I probably should read the book. It does seem like the books are well researched and
it is fascinating all the history you learn along with the storyline.
I think you would really enjoy this book on Patton since your Dad was also a WWII vet.
