My girlfriend just bought me a Sunday Missal, and I realized that I had no idea what year we were in…something in me says it is year A, but I want to be absolutely sure…

Look in the front of it. It will have a year chart showing you the reading cycles.

Yes, the 2007-2008 cycle is Year A.

Now I feel like an idiot. Last Sunday I was looking for the readings before Mass and as usual I went to the cycle C. During Mass the readings were different and I thought to myself “The reader probably goofed up!”

The new year - A - just began with Advent. Last year was C. It becomes a habit to keep thinking in terms of the old year. It will take me awhile to be able to write 2008 without thinking about it and of course writing and crossing off 2007 after January 1 too.

great gift, good GF to think of it, my first recommendation for anyone needing to purchase a confirmation gift (and help them learn to use it). you think this is confusing, try the LOTH. I am embarrassed to tell you how long it was before I realized the daily readings have their own 2 yr cycle, apart from the 3 yr Sunday cycle. When I got a daily missal from my brother, it took about a year to learn how to use it. but now I treasure it because it has Latin and English side by side (very retro).

Oh…that’s what threw me off…the few times I go to a Church that uses the actual missal instead of the missalette we have been using year C…of course, I haven’t been to that Church since Advent started…:]

Haha…yeah. When I started saying LOTH daily (about a year and a half ago), I was totally lost until a good friend showed me how to use it…I’ll admit I’m still learning, but I think I have a handle on Ordinary Time/Advent/Easter/Christmas/Lent/Saints…still have yet to touch the office of readings or any of the commons…but someday…

One year , same calendar, hundreds of feasts and saints celebrated, most of the bible covered (in psalms and ot and nt readings) and the teachings of the Church embedded in every prayer in the Mass.

I was lectoring on the First Sunday of Advent.Now I feel like an idiot. Last Sunday I was looking for the readings before Mass and as usual I went to the cycle C. During Mass the readings were different and I thought to myself “The reader probably goofed up!”
The priest usually gets the book set up before hand so it is at the right page, but this time he had not. I was sitting in the back of the Church trying to go over it again before mass, but they were different readings. I thought “Oh, no. What year are we on now?”
Luckily there was a man standing not to far away who I knew was studying to be a deacon. I asked him and he said it was Year C.
Good thing I checked!
