No offense, but how come some authors have e-books that are available via Kindle but not via Kobo? At least I can use a Kobo purchase to support my local independent bookstore.

Purely due to the agreements between the appropriate distributor (Amazon or Kobo/Rakuten) and the publisher.

It’s for this reason I own both types of e-reader, a Kobo Aura and a Kindle Paperwhite.

I can’t speak for other authors, but as for myself, the reason my ebooks are on Kindle exclusively is because it gives me certain advantages. For example, I can occasionally have a Free Book Promotion on Kindle.
