I’ve heard rumors from acquaintances and even from certain lyrics in songs that King James removed chapters of the Bible and essentially made his own version to coincide with political objectives at the time. Is this true?

King James did not make a bible. He authroized, indeed paid for a translation to be made.

It would appear he did want some things to not be in the Bible. That would be the footnotes such as appeared in the Geneva Bible that said things like if it came down to obeying the King or God then one must obey God.

King Jame’s instructions to the translators called for a minimum of footnotes and they were to be narrow in function addressing textual things. They were not to be interpretive in nature.

I don’t know where the idea that King James removed chapters or verses would even come from.

kjvonly.org/other/kj_instructs.htm gives King Jame’s instructions to the translators. #6 speaks of footnotes.

To my knowledge, King James of England did not have any chapters or books removed from the Bible translation he authorized.

HOWEVER, the Old testaments is not based on the Septuagint, therefore, the books of Daniel and Ester do not have passages (chapters) which are present in Septuagint-based translations. In addition, the 7 deutero-canonical books were consigned to a separate section called the Apocrypha.

On a separate note, I find JollyJoe’s link to be of dubious credibility, despite the fact his post and mine appear to be in agreement.

It’s a KJO site and I wouldn’t recommend it in general, but those were indeed the instructions to the translators.

I did some more hunting and found them on Michael Marlow’s site the bible researcher. I didn’t realize he had them posted see: bible-researcher.com/kjvhist.html
