Can someone please explain to me why when King David slept with another man’s wife and with that knowledge sent Uriah to be killed in battle that he was not punished in any way on his own person?! In fact the only price that was paid was that their first son together grew ill and die.

THAT WAS IT! God didn’t punish King David, he didn’t make his flesh fester or cause him to go impotent. God kills their child; the only innocent one in this entire ordeal!

King David litterally just brushed it away and you know what he does? He has another child with her! And worse than that is the fact that God approves! He makes this child the one to become the most famous King in Isreal and Judah.

Not only that there is also the fact that it is theorized that this affair was a mutual cooperation between Bathsheeba and David, and again neither suffer any true judgement for what they did-Bathsheeba is allowed to remain a Queen by David’s side and David is still seen as the King worthy of Heaven who just had one fall.

Honestly in my “Imperfect judgement” this scum of a King is not worthy of being the ancestor of Jesus.

Does God cause your skin to fester or cause you impotence when you sin? Or does he let you go to the confessional and get mercy and absolution? David’s son died because of his sin, and God’s son died because of ours.

If that is the case, whenever God punished someone physically such as making Nebuchadnezzar II insane, not allowing Moses into the Promised Lands after 40 years, or turning Lot’s wife into ash that was Him just being a tyrant? After all all they did was just sin, God could of been merciful to them, but he wasn’t.

Those all occurred before God offered his son as atonement for our sins.

…But so did King David’s affair! Plus there is the fact that God just accepted this completely after the unjust punishment he gave out. He let them remain together, let Bathsheeba remain Queen, allowed King David to rule without punishment and let their second son become the most famous King of Isreal.

We have no authority to question God’s actions.

8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the LORD.
9 As high as the heavens are above the earth, so high are my ways above your ways and my thoughts above your thoughts.
Isaiah 55:8-9.

So you wouldn’t call the death of one of your children punishment?

You clearly don’t have children.

You don’t have children do you. I have 2 and cannot imagine the sorrow it would be to lose a child. That indeed is a severe punishment.
II Samuel 18:33 The king was deeply moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept; and as he went, he said, “O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Would I had died instead of you, O Absalom, my son, my son!”

Ok so the punishment was just, but it wasn’t followed by anything else.

David is still married to a woman whose husband he had killed for his own personal gain, why did God still allow this and never mentions anything about their marriage built on infidelity and murder?!

The son was rewarded, and brought to heaven early.

David was punished in losing a son.

I wouldn’t be too sure that God just didn’t care:
7 Nathan then said to David, "You are the man! Thus says the LORD God of Israel, 'It is I who anointed you king over Israel and it is I who delivered you from the hand of Saul.
8 'I also gave you your master’s house and your master’s wives into your care, and I gave you the house of Israel and Judah; and if that had been too little, I would have added to you many more things like these!
9 'Why have you despised the word of the LORD by doing evil in His sight? You have struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword, have taken his wife to be your wife, and have killed him with the sword of the sons of Ammon.
10 ‘Now therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’
11 "Thus says the LORD, 'Behold, I will raise up evil against you from your own household; I will even take your wives before your eyes and give them to your companion, and he will lie with your wives in broad daylight.
12 ‘Indeed you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, and under the sun.’"
I don’t know much about this particular passage, but when we find ourselves second guessing God’s justice, we tend to be missing something (omniscience for starters).

David then repents. His son still dies, and I believe the rest of the punishment is carried out as well later on. Little bit more than a slap on the wrist.

As to death being more of a punishment for the son than the father, I highly doubt that God sent an innocent baby to Hell. The alternative cannot be considered a punishment, coming from God.

And finally, the David - Bethseda thing certainly started wrong, but ended in repentance and genuine marriage, if I understand correctly. A wrongful relationship can be set right, such as happens now when couples “cohabiting,” or whatever the pc term for fornication is these days, get married.

ok…sorry for wasting everyones time. I’m just a stupid idiot

No, I don’t think you are stupid but just think about it. David’s son is dead beacause of his actions. He had to live out the rest of hist life knowing his actions resulted in the death of his son. That’s a liftetime of anguish.

Isn’t it crazy how much God is willing to forgive those who really repent and turn back to Him? I’m thankful for that every day. That a murderer and adulterer could be in the lineage of Jesus, not to mention called ‘a man after God’s own heart’… that kind of mercy is unfathomable and undeserved and so very, very wonderful. It makes me feel a little less like God hates me for failing and reminds me how much He can love, and how much He can forgive, if we’re willing to turn back to Him and let him wipe the slate clean.

You’re not stupid. It’s outrageous that God would forgive David. Outrageous that God would forgive at all. Outrageous, amazing, wonderful grace. It boggles the mind, it really does, but I’m so thankful for that unmerited mercy and forgiveness. Instead of getting upset about David, let the story of his life give you a glimpse into God’s unfailing love, let it remind you of God’s grace! Get passionate about His mercy!

Our God is a Redeemer. Hallelujah! 🙂
