And yet, people like many on this thread attack the Muslims for being extremists. Kissing the holy book of another religion as a sign of respect for that culture in no way diminishes belief in Christ. I think that if our dear holy Pope were here today he would do it again, in spite of the critics who spew hatred and intolerance. What will you say to Christ when He asks you how you loved your fellow man? Will you say that the “infidels” were of no concern to you, a true Christian? No follower of any other faith in his right mind would consider Christ listening to some of you calling them “infidels” and their holy book “satan’s word.” Showing respect for others’ faith does not make one a bad Christian.
I dont think kissing the holy book of another religion is a sign of a respect for that CULTURE, but for that RELIGION.

I can hardly find anything in ISLAM that I should respect that much to go that far and kiss their book. There was simply no need for that. Especially in the Muslim mind-set since they consider Islam to be superior and Christianity inferior.

God loves muslims

That was a act of love showing the true Jesus

It is not well understood by some Christians

Be a true christian means to assume a condition of complete simplicity - costing not less than everything, serving all - wash your enemies feet

Be a humble servant of the Lord’s vineyard

Hello ,

I am a muslim.

let me reassure you that JP wasn’t loved by muslims because of this incident, He was loved and remembered mainly because of his kindness and defence of the poor around the world and his defence of poor nations. ( which many muslims come from)

We muslims are not some simple minded folk thinking because the pope kissed the Quran that he became muslim or that he became less catholic.

The man simply was a reconciler , a bridge builder. He kissed the Quran in akcnowledgement of the good sides of it from his point of view . Also did it in a sign of respect for the people who is visiting knowing that they hold the Quran dear .

take it easy and ease your minds, we muslims arent some sort of gloating over that he kissed our Quran. This is childesh and racist to think that a group of people can think of such a childish manner . We are no less bright or intelligent than you are .

If i am presented a bible in a public occasion i can kiss it without leaving my Islam . Thus it is very normal for a christian to do the same. The position of a Pope is diplomatic in additin to religious. In the spirit of reconciliation and friendship, a good man made a smart gesture that didnt change his heart inside .

whats wrong with that ?

I hope i rested some catholic minds. And hope i have silenced some anti catholic accusations from other Christian denominations

Well, I think it’s an objective truth that many Muslims are poorly educated. Gloating over kissing the Koran? I have seen it - does that make me a racist?
Islam has a fixation with occasionalism - this has a direct effect on education and learning.

So are many christians are poorly educated. People here always talk about ‘‘Islam’’ as a whole. Islam is one billion people. with different people such as christianity. You said it yourself , actions depend on eductaion and learning oppertunitiues and doenst have to do with Islam .

We need to realise that the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church has the fullness of truth. We are so lucky.

Other faiths have elements of truth within them and yes this includes Islam.

What the Holy Father was reverencing were those elements of truth contained within the entire publication.

Kisses recognise goodness they do not at the same time justify evil or legitimise falsehoods.

Let me take a very wide analogy!
There is something beautiful inside every child that a parent loves. The parent kisses the child in response to that beauty. If the child through circumstance turns out to be the most evil and brutal of children, that which is true and beautiful, will still be present in that child and the parent will continue to kiss it.
If the child is to die, having led a very evil life I would like to see a parent refrain from a last kiss before the coffin is closed. That kiss recognises what was good in that child during life and does not justify the evil expressed.
I know it is a wide analogy but I think you get the idea.

John Paul explained it much better. If you do a google search you will see what I mean. 😊

In the same spirit, why not kiss a copy of the satanic bible if a represenative of the church of satan visits Rome? Or, better yet - kiss a pornographic magazine when Larry Flynt drops by the Vatican?

He didn’t so whats the point of debating it?

Because Kissing the Qu’ran, even if it is a true LIE or evil, he did so…showing Jesus humbleness

So washing their feet would be just the same

Following Jesus is just that…be a servant

And when was it that either of these two examples came to pass?

Apples and oranges. I find it disgraceful that you would compare the Quran to either of those two things.

They’re all non-Christian books that could be given as gifts.

The best explaination I read on this is, when the pope travels, he kisses the gound of a country to claim its peoples for christ – thus he could have been kissing the koran to claim victory over islam for Jesus.
Should not the Muslim in that case kiss the Bible?!

When people came to kiss Don Vito Corleone`s hand, it wasnt because they claimed victory over the Godfather, it was a sign of surrender and submission 👍

Concern yourself with your own affairs and what you should do. What others do is their own affair.

if your own actions are right and just in the sight of God they will be noticed and you will have set a good example.

We must worry about the example we set, before we decide to take time out to examine the motives of others.

TU QUOQUE!!!

Muslims as a whole are more poorly educated than Westerners - FACT
it doesn’t have anything to do with Islam? I disagree. what do you think about the effect of occasionalism on Islamic thought?

Is it true that JP2 kissed the Quran on one of his visits? If so, why? Would you ever kiss the Quran? What`s the point?!
hola

the Holy Father was just showing his appreciation for a gift… many Polish people do this, it should not be understood in any religious context, the Holy Father even said so.

que Dios te bendiga
