KJV-ACE: A Distinct Possibility?

Now that the Vatican’s “personal ordinariate” for Traditional Anglicans have come out, what is the possibility of a “Holy Bible, King James Version, Authorized Catholic Edition” coming out? I mean, isn’t it that the Anglican Rite use the Authorized King James Version for its Scripture readings?

If that happens, it would be grand! The King James Version translation is indeed very beautiful, it could only be beneficial for the Catholic Church to acquire an English translation of the Bible based on the KJV yet faithful to the Magisterium’s teachings.

Although, I could only imagine how Tyndale, King James et. al. would roll in their graves if that would happen

I guess a publisher could submitt a version with the deuterocanon books for an imprimatur but one may as well use the Challoner Douay Rheims (www.drbo.org). It was stylisticly influenced by the KJV which in tern was influenced by the 1582 original Douay Rheims.

For something a little more modern but still with the thys thees etc there is the fab Confraternity Bible

Well of course when the KJV was originally translated, it did include the full canon.
But I am reasonably certain that Anglican churches in English-speaking countries today use the NRSV, so would anticipate that they would use the same (CE, of course) in their liturgies after reception.

Why not just use the RSV-CE? It retains most of the beauty of the KJV, but without the anachronistic language.

Of course the Confraternity (of Christian Doctrine, aka CCD) Bible that I have is a Douay-Confraternity (Douay translation of the OT, Confraternity revision of the NT). Next to that is my RSV-2ndCE (the one revised according to Liturgicam Authenitcam). I still have a St Joseph’s NAB around for reference as well.

I think an updated KJV with the DC’s would be a pretty cool thing to see, for all the reasons stated above.

Another possible good by-product would be that it may be interesting to non-Catholic Christians who are curious about the DC’s, and be more comfortable with (for many of them) the familiar KJV. It would also be good for ecumenical encounters and gatherings.

Yeah! That’d be good too! I never thought of the possibility of an updated Catholic KJV smoothening out ecumenical encounters and gatherings.

you wont be disappointed. i love mine. it has the beautiful language structure of the king james but its based off the best manuscripts. you will love it. well worth any cost. God bless.
