Here’s a variation on the Star Wars vs. Star Trek thread:

In a pitched battle of hand-to-hand combat, who would emerge victorious - a Klingon or a Wookie?
 
Are you kidding me? A wookie would tear the arms off a Klingon and use them to beat the daylights out of him! Chewy is the MAN! (err…I mean WOOKIE!)

No Bat’leth. The original poster said hand-to-hand combat. That mean no weapons. The Wookie wins.

I don’t think so. I’ve never seen a Wookie move fast. Very strong, but slow. Klingons are strong, fast, and quick. I think Klingon takes it in a very close match.

Hand to hand does not mean without weapons, it means without weapons that operate across a distance. So slingshots, crossbows and disruptors are out, but clubs, lightsabers and bat’leths are in.

If the original poster wishes to exclude all weapons, he will have to specify that. Not that would handicap the klingon much, weaponless forms of moQ’bara would more than suffice to dispatch the wookie.

I agree with this definition of hand-to-hand. No ranged weapons allowed. To be fair, the nature of the weapons themselves shouldn’t skew the results (i.e. no lightsaber vs. feather duster), although the combatant’s skill with a given weapon is of course a consideration.

In unarmed combat, I would expect the Wookie to literally disarm the unarmed Klingon. With weapons it’s a different story - I don’t know if Wookies are particularly adept with any kind of traditional weapon. I do give the Wookie the advantage for the more intimidating growl.

A feather duster could be effectively used as a weapon. Shoved in an opponents face, it could distract and impede the opponent from defending against a more damaging second attack.

There is no such thing as a dangerous weapon, there are only dangerous men. And klingons.

LOL, okay sorry. Regarding intelligence, the Wookiees are on par with the Klingons. Remember that Chewbacca was capable of piloting the Millenium Falcon and apparently has a fairly developed dialect, though only Han and a handful of others knew it in the movies.

Regarding brute strength, Klingons are roughly 1.5 to 2 times stronger than humans. Wookiees are twice as tall (Chewbacca was still young, if you read the books) and can rip people’s arms out of their sockets apparently with a fair amount of ease. They are also very quick, if you remember the scene from SW IV in the Death Star hangar control room, where in a lightning-quick move, Chewie knocks out an Imperial Officer.

The Klingon would possibly have one advantage, in that they are bred for war. Culturally, they learn fighting from the moment they are born, and thus likely have better reflexes and intuition than a Wookiee. However, in a match with equally skilled warriors and weapons, the Wookiee would win hands down.

Are Wookiees basically a peaceful people, that can be fierce when the situation demands it? I would expect the Klingon to have more of a killer instinct. But would the Klingon’s code of honor prevent him from taking any low blows or cheap shots?

Now on any given occasion, Captain Kirk was usually a good match for an unarmed Klingon in hand-to-hand combat. If Kirk could stand his ground with a Klingon, I think the Wookiee would have no problem at all.

They are physically strong and prone to anger, but they do not generally make war on each other. The jungles on their homeworld of Kashyyyk are so dangerous that they had to band together in tribes long ago to face their common threats, so war is not ingrained in their culture as it is with Humans and Klingons.

Wookiees can grow up to 10 feet tall. Anything a Klingon did would be a low blow!
 
Since humans have been able to beat Klingons in one on one, Wookies would have no problem.

And this is comming from a person who likes StarTrek more than Star Wars.
