I’m from widdle old New Zealand and recently my parish preist and a lot of other parishishes have been removing kneelers, saying that it’s happening over seas. But I have Catholic buddies elsewhere around the world saying they’ve never even heard of it.

So we have no kneelers in our church and it annoys me to know ends, I still kneel, and it’s hard on a concrete floor, but the way I see it is that God is present in the mass and we shouldn’t be standing or sitting before him, but the priest gets annoyed at those who kneel, so those who were in protest of it arent’ kneeling any more.

Mind you, our priest is a strange one, he wrote a 10,000 word thesis on why the Catholic church should bless Homosexual unions.

Good for you, just keep kneeling!👍 Offer up the sore knees for your priest’s conversion and pray, pray, pray for him…his poor soul is lost and Satan has put up his tent right in there. Not true that everywhere else is doing this…he thinks people are stupid too?

I’d be tempted to change parishes where they have kneelers…and pray for that priest there. I doubt he will change things even if people complain, they usually don’t.

Sorry, about others abandoning you in kneeling…CHICKENS! If I was there I would kneel with you!

You’re in my prayers,

Debbie

scripture says: "every knee shall bend at the name of JESUS 👍

I think kneeler-ectomies were quite the trend in liberal Catholic parishes in the States in the 80s and 90s. Back when Catholic internet forums started appearing it was a hot topic of conversation. It doesn’t seem to be so anymore. I don’t know if that’s because the victims of kneeler-less parishes have become resigned to kneeling on hard floors or if kneelers have re-appeared. The only time I’ve had to endure it is when our parish was renovating the church.

Hopefully this is one fad that has seen its day come and go!

Cathy

Nice to be able to go and check with some of those parishes “overseas” so easily isn’t it?

The 100+ year old parish I go to still has its kneelers, but none of the newer churches in the area do. Except the Episcopal I went to once, first place I ever saw them. If they have them why take them out? What are they trying to achieve I wonder? Do people complain about having to kneel? It seems to be a point of pride to be able to kneel at my church, though some of the very old have to stop at some point and just sit instead.

My usual Church has kneelers. The one I visit with my parents does not, but they have the blue mat things you can put under your kness… Perhaps bring something with to kneel on? 🙂

Is news really that slow from the US to New Zealand? We are slightly beyond that point; we are now starting to put them back…

Good for you! Keep on kneeling. If I were you, I would bring a little mat on which to kneel. If prevented from doing that, I’d get some of those things you can wear around you knees in the garden.

Your pastor is indeed mixed up, but there is no reason you should be. Console yourself that now, thanks to the internet, we are with you.

Think of that when your knees hurt! 🙂

God Bless,

Anna

Fortuantely, the only churches I have been to that lacked kneelers are those that were formally houses of small chapels and converted into church space, by pulling up chairs together. I don’t understand why they woudl not wnat people to kneel. I think the change in perspective is very edifying.

Vera,

I’m “overseas” (USA) and I think I’ve only ever been in two Catholic churches that did not have kneelers- and I’ve been in at least two dozen different Catholic churches in my short lifetime. I won’t knowingly attend Mass at a parish without kneelers unless I absolutely have no other choice (which hasn’t yet happened).

Did your bishop approve the removal of kneelers? If so there’s not a lot you can do as priests are supposed to obey the bishop. But if this didn’t come from the bishop you can always file a complaint with him.

I’m confused…in these churches without kneelers, is kneeling still an expected part of the mass?

The whole things sounds very unfortunate!

I echo the others who say stay on your knees & keep praying that the Priest & these other parishioners get their acts together. :yup:

Sounds to me like it’s time to find a new parish…

You really think so? Try coming to some of the churches here in the US, if you get a priest that doesnt talk with a homosexual lisp, or acts so effiminate it is like a shock to me and my wife, its like, hey, a real Priest that is not actually looking at the altar boy! I think that is probably another reason , in my opionion for the introduction of altar girls, which I think is another bend over reaction to all the liberals. See, these altar girls are not a target for these pedophile homosexual priests that have infiltrated the seminaries right before and after Vatican II. The Purpose of altar boys when I was growing up was to get them to love the church, the reverenece (no more my friend) to hopefully get them to become priests, but now we have altar girls, who in the New church after V2 will probably start being ordained within the next 20 years.

And as far as kneelers go, I have attened weddings at new catholic churches, that really look Protestant where there is NO tabernacle to be found, the cross in the back over the altar does NOT have our Lord on it (as the Protestants hate a crucufix with our lord on it, just a plain cross is all they want to see) and there was a crucifix, small, over the candals. Liberal and immoral is what it is and what much of our beloved church has become and we must take it back now!

Seems like a heretical priest, we have many here, I would kneel on the hard floor, or maybe you should bring a little fold up kneeler with you.
I mean a tiny fold-away cushion type.
I didn’t get to Mass early on Stephen’s day, so went to the local Passionist’s Church in the afternoon.
They sang Silent Night and so forth, then at the end they sang “Please daddy don’t get drunk this Christmas” I’m not surprised what is sung there since the priest has spoken out about the Pope before.
I wondered was I at Mass or a country jamboree, God preserve us from heretical priests.

Though I have heard of kneelers being taken out in some parishes, the Roman Catholic chruch I went to in Fresno CA and the one I now attend in Placerville CA have kneelers.

Some of the newer churches being built don’t have kneelers. It seems to depend upon the pastor. The parish I should be going to is building a chuch without kneelers. Right now they are in a temporary building without pews, just chairs.

I prefer them.
