If one kneels to receive the Body, do you also kneel to receive from the Cup? Wouldn’t that be very awkward? Or do you not receive under both species if you prefer to kneel?

BOdy of Christ only for two reasons.
  1. The ENTIRE Christ is received under both species, and or any segment of either species. So receiving Christ under the Sacramental veil of bread only, is receiving the Entire Christ.👍 This is what you should opt to do.
  2. One should not attemt to receive the Blood of Christ while kneeling for fear of spilling more of our Blessed Lord’s Blood.
God bless you,

back when kneeling was the norm the faithful did not receive from the chalice, except in special circumstances, such as at their wedding with permission, so it did not arise.

My parish usually offers both species for Communion. There are a few folks that regularly receive kneeling in my parish. Sometimes I am right behind them in line. I like to give the guy in front of me some elbow room anyway so, it’s no real problem with me standing behind them waiting. I was just wondering what they do with the cup. I never watch them, I am focusing elsewhere. I was just curious since I have seen folks on CAF talk about how they always receive kneeling. And I have seen that Pope Benedict is encouraging this manor of receiving. DW has celiac’s so she only receives from the cup. If we as a Church went over to a norm of kneeling only as our posture, what would my wife and other celiac’s do?

you would inform the pastor of your special needs and he would accommodate you

I have heard that in some traditional Anglican parishes, where Communion is received kneeling, the Chalice is also administered to a kneeling communicant.

Ideally, if there’s going to be reception of the Chalice (on special occasions, such as Corpus Christi and Holy Thursday), I’d like to see intinction (received kneeling) in the Roman Rite.

I once kneeled to receive the Precious Blood, and realized that others behind me–I was the only one who kneeled–might trip over my feet on their way back to the pew. The obvious danger to them in tripping and to the Precious Blood in spilling quickly made me change.

🙂

All the people I have observed who receive the Host kneeling do not receive from the Chalice at all.

That is exactly as I did for many years. When there is a communion rail and people are used to kneeling, there is not really a problem either with administering the chalice or with intinction.

When I was an Episcopalian, we always knelt to receive from the chalice, and there was never any problem…

Except once, when the contents splashed onto a man’s tie. A lady from the altar guild came up with a pair of scissors and SNIP!

Of course, it would be tricky to receive from a spoon while kneeling.

Really? When I’ve received from a spoon (in Byzantine parishes), I’m standing, yes, but the priest was standing, if I’m not mistaken, a step above me. (Maybe he was just a tall priest… I’m 6’ 1".) Regardless, I would think a kneeling recipient would make it easier for administering Communion with a spoon.

Not if both you and the priest are holding the communion cloth.

Several local Lutheran parishes receive under both species kneeling at the communion rail. It’s quite doable.
