Wouldn’t this be the case no matter what posture the Bishop wanted people to take?
By having standing there is a common posture. If kneeling is encouraged some will kneel. Others will be standing to distribute Communion and to go to Communion. Others will be sitting, because it is more comfortable. Others will be sitting because they are not going to Communion, letting people pass them.

I understand your point. The same could be said throughout the Mass since the priest and servers follow a different procedure then the rest of the people.

It just feels like an argument of convenience though.
One day I was with my kids in the cry room at Mass. Things were bad, and I could not get the kids to behave. At one point my son said/yelled ‘Why!’ and I said (probably louder then I should have), “You are in the prescence of God that spoke the universe into existence. You will act accordingly!”
After that, I still had a problem with my kids, but everyone within earshot began kneeling.
It was funny. But it illustrates how I feel concerning this thread.
This is God that we are standing before.
I feel better on my knees.

Thank you…it’s a pretty simple concept

I understand that the bishop has given permission to stand. I guess my question is this: Does he have to give a REASON as to why he doesn’t think it necessary to kneel? I am very upset by the lack of reverance in the church. I am about to write a letter to the entire parrish.
I agree with you and many of the others. It seems our American Bishops decided to change our “norms” but even among themselves they have no “norms”. I thought just by going to Mass that I was in communion (or union) with my fellow parisoners in our beliefs. I didn’t know that everyone standing showed us we were all in union with each other. I always thought Mass was to give thanksgiving to God and not be in uniform posture. Go figure. We used to be uniform in posture but now at our church we have standing, sitting, and kneeling with even way more talking. Hmmmm now who is the master of confusion?

But don’t you think we should all be *sitting *throughout the whole of every service, lest people in wheelchairs be made to feel out of communion with all those who stand…?

No I do not agree. The communion that we share has nothing to do with our posture. It has to do with the Eucharist.

Are you serious with this post or are you just kidding?
