Kneeling before the Blessed Sacrament

Thanks for that brother! I learned something new today–or maybe relearned something I forgot that I once knew. I have to admit that in all the times I’ve read through that section through the years I don’t remember noticing that statement.

Of course that might just be a sign of the natural order of things; my “remembery” doesn’t seem to be quite as photographic as it once was.

In parishes that I have seen, most people bow, but they do it to the Host by bwoing to the back of the person receiving. They seem to be in a slight hurry. Most likely, they were catchized but not necessarily well, or long ago enough that they have forgotten some of the details.

I think some parishioners simply do not know about the bow. Instead they see others doing it and figured that must be the correct thing to do. Since it is impromptu for them though, they may develop the bad habit of bowing at the wrong time.

Here is my story to give it context. I did not know I was to bow at all till recently. The first time this thought occurred was watching Mass on TV and seeing some people genuflecting while approaching the Body and Blood. I got curious and looked it up. Before when I did not bow, I wanted to keep my full attention on the Body and Blood so I just stared blankly till I received Christ.

That’s my story. I also wanted to point out that seeing someone else genuflect, which is not what I normally see, triggered the light bulb in my head.
