Kneeling to receive Communion

I will keep in mind the idea of waiting to go up at the end of the line, or keeping a gap between myself and the person behind me. …

I don’t quite know if I can wait until the end of the line, though, because I sit in the second row from the front…
I sit in the second row from the front. As everyone in my row gets up and proceeds forward (and to the left) to communion, I get up, exit the pew stage right, and go to the back of the church and join the end of the line as it forms. Nobody in the pews behind has gotten up yet, so I don’t run over anybody. Hope that makes sense.

Go for it! 😃 And let us know how it went.

Many of us at the local OF parish now kneel for communion. It wasn’t like this for many years even though lots of us wanted to kneel. We lack the courage to be different. Then one day a young 14 year old girl knelt and that broke the ice. We have been kneeling now for several years. Many folks don’t like us for doing so but we just ignore them.

There has never been a problem of slowing communion down; in fact there is more problems with folks waiting for the Chalice. Thats where the traffic gets congested.

Ask an Apologist answered a question pertaining to this. I was surprised.
It is true that the General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM, 2002) states that a person who kneels shouldn’t be denied Communion. It is also true that there are Latin-rite Masses at which it would be acceptable for communicants to kneel for Communion (e.g., Anglican-use Catholic liturgies, indult Tridentine liturgies). The GIRM, however, presumes that at a standard Roman-rite liturgy in the United States the communicants will ordinarily stand, and should be privately corrected if they do not:

However *corrected *is not the word I would use. We have a legal right to kneel.

The US GIRM states “Communicants should not be denied Holy Communion because they kneel. Rather, such instances should be addressed pastorally, by providing the faithful with proper catechesis on the reasons for this norm.”

What are the reasons why we should stand instead of kneel when receiving God? Has there ever been any proper catechesis?

Yes, this is what the GIRM says. However, Pope Benedict in 2008 has said that the norm is to receive while kneeling on the Tongue. newsblaze.com/story/20090801065749zzzz.nb/topstory.html

With the new Missal and GIRM comming out maybe this will all be cleared up.
The article makes unsubstantiated claims and is suspect.
today Communion in the hand is carried on illegally and has become a major tool of the enemy to destory the Faith throughout the world. For this practice serves no other purpose than to warp our conception of Jesus Christ and nourish a contempt for the sacred mysteries. It’s no wonder St. Basil referred to Communion in the hand as “a grave fault.”
This is a false statement which makes the rest of the article doubtful.

It is written by Our Lady’s Workers of Southern California. It seems this group is associated with the condemned false Bayside Apparition.

This doesn’t seem to be consistent with what Cardinal Arinze says in behalf of the Pope:

Wow this is confusing. Here is more
Thanks for this.

So it appears that unless you make yourself out to be a “nuisance,” you have a perfect right to receive kneeling. However, I can see where people will try to find loopholes with that thinking, for example, by having the priest stand on a stair or other platform, congest the area, etc.

I just picked one you can googel what the Pope has to say there are many articules on it. All saying the same that the Pope has said kneeling is the norm.

Kneeling to receive communion seems to me to be a means displaying a ‘holier than thou’ attitude. I seriously doubt that the apostles knelt at the last supper to receive Christ’s body and blood.
The communion rail was removed to bring a closer feeling with Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. We don’t need a barrier between the faithful and the tabernacle.
Also, if you are a civilized human being, please receive in the hand. Don’t lower the Eucharist to the form of giving your pet a treat by taking it directly on the tongue. That’s the form I use when I give my pet a bone.
Chirp,

Your statements are wrong at so many levels that it’s hard to remain [charitable] in response.

Be that as it may.

Devotion and reverence is not a [hollier than thou] attitude. Although in the eye of the beholder it could be a case of “guiltier than thou”. Other catholic’s reverences and devotions tend to have a self-awarness effect on others.

Bringing up the “removal of the rails” is a redundant point. Priests come down from the altar anyway to give communion. You just decided to tag this on in the spirit of vatican II. Big deal. How much closer can we be to the Blessed Sacrament than to recieve in our mouth?

And reducing the devotion of recieving on the tongue to that of feeding your pet!! How rude of you.

I hope and pray that the fellow catholics at the mass you attend are not scalded by your searing and rude attitude.
