While I was Adoration, I was thinking about something I had posted the other day about beginning a grassroots “campaign” to bring back kneeling to receive Our Lord.
I have only knelt a hand full of times because it is not the “norm” position (?) to receive. I knelt this evening, and it was glorious!

So, I am wondering if anyone else would like to join me in my “campaign” in this new Liturgical year (and beyond!)

Glorious?

Do this and prepare for a white martyrdom.

It is contrary to the thought of denying the presence of Christ in the Eucharist and the elevation of Man as the center of the liturgy.

Kneeling to recieve Christ is the more respectful and better way to recieve but is not the fashion or what is encouraged so it will be frowned upon and fought against.

I say go for it, it sounds like a good and holy thing to do. I can think of no good or holy reason to promote standing over kneeling just the denial of Christ and the pride of man.

Now we should stand if we are directed to but there has never been a good reason given, obedience is why we do it these days and that is unfortunately used to destroy faith these days. We should be obedient as it is not wrong to stand, I just believe it is harmful to belief in the real presence.

I’d personally like to see more people recieve on the tongue rather than the hand.

Because receiving in the hand is an indult that became the norm. Many Protestant denominations began to receive in the hand because they believe that the Eucharist is only a symbol and not the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Our Lord.

Receiving in the hand is an ancient Catholic church practice - from way before Protestants ever existed.

Since when?
It is an old custom which was replaced to better respect our Lord in the Eucharist. To further our respect for Christ we change practices to a more reverent form to teach the faith\respect Christ more effectively.

Just because Catholics in the beginning did certain things does not make it preferable. We need to look at the faith as a whole and with the centrality of Christ first. Does it reflect our tradition in putting Christ as the center of our faith or does it reflect our temptation to elevate man?

That wasn’t very nice
I’m sorry you feel that way. I for one am tired of this same issue popping up ad nauseum on these boards and it never seems to be resolved. And why not? Because no matter what the Church has to say about the issue there are still people who want to dredge up ancient history to justify dissenting opinions. You want to kneel? Fine. I want to stand. Neither one of us has any business starting a “campaign”. We have a higher authority for a reason.

St. Cyril would not promote a respectful practice?

I figure if it is good enough for a Doctor of the Church who am I to 2nd guess .

I assume you’re talking about the more ancient Protestant denominations, especially the Anglican (Episcopalian) churches, and the Lutheran church. Sometimes the United Methodist Church. And maybe some other mainlines.

All the other Protestant denoms that I know of don’t receive Communion, they “take” communion. It is served in a platter that is usually passed around the congregation, and everyone takes a small piece of the matzo (or whatever–I’ve seen bread cubes used, too). The grape juice (never wine) is also contained in small cups, usually plastic, although some churches still use the glass ones and wash them after communion services. These small cups are also passed in a tray from person to person, and each person helps themselves to a cup.

I agree that St Cyril would not promote a disrespectful practice. I stress that there is nothing wrong with receiving in the hand respectfully.
Please read my post carefully and seek to understand the meaning behind it. I can certainly not kneel, I can certainly not receive as a child in the mouth, I can certainly not even genuflect if the situation does not give me the ability to. I do not kneel now to receive, as that is what my Bishop promotes. (we are also one of the worst Dioceses in the country for vocations, but the dissent promoted in my Diocese is another topic)

But what is better to do?We should seek to give the most, the best, the ultimate respect to our Lord. Just as in Benediction when the Monstrance is handled it is not 100% necessary to use a humeral veil, it doesn’t make the Eucharist any less Jesus, but we do it because it is respectful to Jesus and highlights the Real Presence, it is the right thing to do.We should seek to best respect Jesus and combat the widespread denial of Christ in the Eucharist.

We ahve the higher authority for a reason. You have said it quite good.

But be mindful that sometimes authority will works in the other way. Don’t you know that the new present masses was designs by handful of protestant pastors and mason members who are now in the seat of athority inside the catholic church. My point is that we just not keep on obeying human orders just because they were the authorities but we have to be watchful and vigilant to the will of God not of man. Today there are lots of people trying to destroy the true Christian religion that our Lord Jesus built stared from Himself down to His apostle and up to these present times.
If you just do your own business it doesn’t work for we as a church should work universaly. (Catholic means Universal)

Until the situation is actually decided without the use of an indult it will always be a question that has no answer.🤷 I firmly believe that kneeling and on the tung is the most respectful…

The issue of sameness goes for most of the threads in the moral forum.
