It depends on the Chapter adn the LEADERSHIP of said Chapter. The ones around here do marvelous work, and help the priests a lot! As with any gathering of people, strong pushy personalities can take over. However, term limits fixe that.

I still can’t believe that Catholics name this organisation for a man who was responsible for genocide and was never known to repent of it.

Catholics don’t see the work of Columbus that way, and neither does the American government who honors Columbus with a public holiday.

MLK was anti-gay… Should we get rid of his holiday too?

Everyone has skeletons.

If they do not, then they ignore clearly documented history. They ignore truth. Why? And since when i the US government a guide to Catholic action?

The KofC was founded during a period which was the golden age of fraternal organizations. A lot of moose and elks and lions and masonic outfits really flourished, but the world has changed a lot since then.

I’m a Columbiette; my brother Knights in our Council are very active in fund raising for the community as well as in community events. Also, very active in Parish events. Should have seen those guys after Sandy. God bless them. I’ve never known them to be otherwise.

I don’t equate this sort of opinion with genocide.
Columbus did NOT condone nor urge genocide.

There are A LOT of myths surrounding Columbus that were created by Spanish men who wanted to discredit him. He was not Spanish, so as the New World grew, lots of Spanish men, like Cortes objected to reporting to Columbus.

Did Columbus advocate harish punishments, sure … everyone did in those times. Did he preach genocide, no.

The history surrounding Columbus is FILLED with myths created by a complicated and feuding Spanish leadership in the New World, plus by anti-Spanish / anti-Catholic propaganda by the English.

Was Columbus a flawed man, yes he was - just like we all are. But he was a also a man filled with faith.

God Bless

I am a very happy member of the Order. Its not perfect but is a great network of active catholic men. Our council is very active in the Parish and charitable work and I am proud to be with them.

How many brother Knights are in this forum?
I’ve thought about joining (and still do), but my local Chapter isn’t really involved with my parish. They never serve as color guard at my parish, nor do I see them active. My local Chapter consists of 2 or 3 parishes.

They’ve tried to recruit me but it didn’t appeal to me. They are strong on the service part but no more than what Rotary and Lions also do. What I find lacking is particularly Catholic differentiators but I find nothing other than in lip service.
