I am a Catholic male that knows nothing of the Knights of Columbus. I would like to know all about it.
Is there memorization involved?

Yes, you must commit to memory (without fail) all of the following:I am a Catholic male that knows nothing of the Knights of Columbus. I would like to know all about it.

There are some things that Knights of Columbus “should” know, but they are actually things all Catholics should know. One of the local councils included this info on their website, which you can find here kofc11947.org/faith.htm. No one is going to stop you and quiz you on the spot or anything like that, and I’m not sure this is an “official” list.I am a Catholic male that knows nothing of the Knights of Columbus. Just a point of clarification:The KofC is a great organization. It does many fine works locally, Nationally & globally.
You must be a practical Catholic in good standing at your parish & nominated by a member.
And are there adaptations of these requirements for Eastern Catholics?
- The Apostles’ Creed
- The 10 Commandments
- The Greatest Commandment
- The 7 Sacraments
- Two kinds of Grace
- The Precepts of the Church
- The Six Holy Days of Obligation
- The 7 Capital Sins
- The 7 Gifts of the Holy Spirit
- The 4 Cardinal Virtues
- The 15 Mysteries of the Rosary
That may be, and is of course, your call. But of the 8760 hours in a year, don’t you have 24 hours you can give to the Knights? The only worry I have with joining is that I simply do not have the time on my hands.
That’s an excellent question. I don’t have an answer for you at the moment but I will definitely research it this weekend. And are there adaptations of these requirements for Eastern Catholics?
That list seems a little larger than typical. Things it might behoove you to know (whether as a Knight, or as a Catholic in general) can be found in the appendix of *These Men They Call Knights *(which each Knight should receive a copy when he is initiated in the 1st Degree).

Many Catholics, including many saints, have been reviled by large groups of people. What does that count for? Nothing.I’m a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus and I think it’s a great organization, however I do have a few ‘issues’ with them. First I think the name of the org should be changed since Christopher Columbus is not a saint and is actually quite reviled by many in North and South America. The supreme council could rename the org in honor of a famous saint. My second issue is the 4th degree which is patriotism. How can a knight be patriotic to a country that continues to uphold the legality of abortion? A country with high profile Catholic politicians that support abortion and are not being excommunicated? ewtn.com/vnews/getstory.asp?number=103085
I am an active 4th degree K of C in Texas. I have taught CCD and find that many Catholics are just like you.I am a Catholic male that knows nothing of the Knights of Columbus. I would like to know all about it.

Hello Blairmir, Are you failing to become a 4th degree Knight because we pledge to be patriotic and you say Christopher Columbus was not a Saint? You know the Biblical passage, “Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and give to God what belongs to God”.I’m a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus and I think it’s a great organization, however I do have a few ‘issues’ with them.
