The Knights of Columbus exist to serve God and the Church, particularly the Pope, the clergy, and families. The four charisms of the Knights are Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism. Each of these correspond to a degree of membership, and as we progress through the degrees, we explore what each of them means and how we can exercise them for God and the Order.
We are a Catholic, fraternal, family service organization. We raise money and volunteer in our parish communities to exercise charity and serve others. Each council and assembly determines the best projects to take on in order to attain these goals. We work with the Supreme Council as well as regional Councils with mutual support and nationwide or worldwide charitable projects. Some of our work is highly visible, some is behind-the-scenes, and none of it is in secret.
The Knights of Columbus are not an equestrian order and our members do not gain true chivalrous ranks. The titles of “Brother Knight” and “Sir Knight” are purely fraternal. Only our ceremonials are secret, and these are usually held in parish halls or halls owned by the Order.
