Does anyone have information on this group or know whether membership is now forbidden to Catholics? It seems, at least according to the old (1913) Catholic Encyclopedia that membership was discouraged by the Bishops but not to the extent that it was for Freemasonry.

I ask since one of my friends wanted to know if there were any organizations besides specifically Church approved ones (i.e. Knights of Columbus, etc.) that a man could join for sociability and friendship. He has a lodge of this one in his home town and was interested in them.

Any information would be appreciated.

I believe the only organizations for sociability and friendship which is not “Church approved” that someone is allowed to join are BoyScouts or GirlScounts. I could be wrong though.

Elks, Rotary, etc are all acceptable.
