Pastoralis Praeeminentiae. This document was apparently issued by the pope to allow the arrests of the Knights Templar. My knowledge tells me that this was because of pressure from the French king. If this was an act of peer pressure, then was it wrong to disobey it and protect the framed Knights?

Would it be wrong now to not listen to the pope on matters of politics, etc,?

Would it be wrong to disagree with something the Pope says that is his own opinion? I don’t think so. I think it might be unwise but not wrong. Would it be wrong to disobey the Pope when he is speaking about Church doctrine, yes. “Ex Cathedra”? Is that right? I’m sleep deprived.

So it isn’t wrong to disagree with a papal bull or encydical. Only the documents about faith and morals.

The Pope is not infallable in every word he utters. Only when he is speaking from “the chair of Peter” or “ex cathedra” (somebody put me out of my misery if I’m putting down the wrong latin phrase please).

In all honesty I don’t know if an encyclical is in the above situation. I don’t THINK that it is. The Pope is lifting restrictions on the old Latin Mass b/c he has reason to believe that he should. What we should have faith in is that a college of Cardinals elected him pope, that it was God’s will that he is pope and that God will guide him. This doesn’t mean that you HAVE to go to a Latin Mass. He is not making it the only Mass available. Just allowing it to be said. It doesn’t have anything to do with infallability.

Agreed. The mass will be available IF there is demand for it, and IF the priests are qualified to say it. In our parish our Priest is too young to have even heard a Latin mass. He said he would gladly brush up on his Latin and do what is required to provide a Latin mass if he was asked to do so by the members of our parish. Honestly I doubt that anyone in our parish will call for a Latin mass, but I think it might be an interesting thing to attend.

There are some areas where the Latin mass still has a strong following and I’ve read that in Diocese of Vermont there will be a Latin mass available, it will probably be a ‘traveling’ mass that goes from parish to parish on a pre-set schedule.

This is incorrect. Non infallible teachings also require assent.

not at all. Matters of discipline (which liturgical matters are) are not subject to the charism of infallibility.

So I should just agree with what ever the current teachings are. I don’t really know which teachings are disciplinary or which are official doctrines or dogma, so if there is a website that someone could give me, which could clear this up, that would be much appreciated.

Are you worried about agreeing with something before finding out what you’re agreeing with? I would understand that point of view. But if you’re just wondering what you HAVE to obey and what you don’t, that’s not the right way to look at it.
