Knocking - PBS special on JWs

Is anyone planning on watching this? It airs May 22nd at 11pm.

Knocking

I want to watch it and see what PBS has to say about them… I jsut hope I have this channel at home…
 
I hope this movie does not cause some of them to get all pumped up to go door to door.

I am still thinking someone will come back that slapped that Awake on my steps. Waiting to ask me what I thought of it.

I am literally sick to my stomach thinking about seeing one of them come to my door. 😦
 
They’ve come to me very rarely. I always thank them kindly, tell them I am a Catholic close the door and then put the Awake in the recycle bin.
 
They were just here! Pray I planted seeds in love. Nothing like a challenge to see where you need to strengthen. I was really nervous. :o

Are you ever home early on Saturdays? They might come by, but then again they might not. Last time I had one knocking on my door (other than my husband :p) was when I first purchased my home and told them I was a very devout Catholic and wasn’t interested in converting. I also told them my DH was a DF’d JW, so since then, no JWs on my door… thank God!

Anywho… I just wonder if “Knocking” is going to be a good show for JWs or one that could open up their eyes… I want to watch it w/Dh, so I guess I’ll read everything I can on the show before it airs.

Yes, I usually dont leave to go out for errands until at least 11:00 unless I have to. I just like to watch my husband hang out with our child before I get motivated to do stuff. But, that may be the best time for them to get me!😦

I know my husband would say to them, hold on I’ll let you talk to my wife since SHE is the “religious one” in the house. He kills me with his mocking of the Catholic faith and me being “too” religious.😦 He would probobly invite them in and the works! He would look at it as doing me a favor to talk about religion with someone. So he wont have to.😦

I dont like the idea of them getting free advertizing in either case. They are on my list of religions I am angry with now.:mad:

With the way Catholics are invariably treated in American media, do we really want one?

At the same time, however, what’s written about them on the website yessian provided seems pretty balanced, so maybe a PBS special wouldn’t be all that bad.
 
I heard earlier that this is a very pro-JW done by people raised as JW but that are not currently members. The thesis is how they have strengthened Civil Rights. (There are a few reasons I view this as factually false, but that’s another discussion.) From what I’ve heard, I think tthis will be a “you may not agree with them, but you have to like them” type special.
 
Mah. 🤷 Next it will be Catholicism as told by the “never reall understood why they were Catholic to begin with” crowd.

However, these shows are like train wrecks…ya can’t help but watch. I didn’t get a chance to watch the Mormon one all the way yet.
 
Been there, done that - wouldn’t waste one moment of my TV viewing time to watch it. :nope:

I would not let him see this with you. My first opinion on this is that it is going to be favorably biased toward the JW viewpoint rather than be objective.

I read it and did mention it to DH but he is not willing to watch it. Good for me, but I really don’t know if I’ll watch it, every single time I see, hear or talk about the JWs I actually have an argument w/DH…

KNOCKING is an independent film production. Watchtower cooperated with the film’s producers, providing them with archival material, granting interviews and permitting their cameras access to Watchtower’s headquarters. KNOCKING’s camera crews were also allowed to film at a district convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses, inside local Kingdom Halls and accompany Witnesses in the door-to-door visitation work. Watchtower provided no funding for this project. Funding sources included the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, foundation grants and individual donations. (see list of funders on “Credits” page). Watchtower had no editorial control over the program, but the producers provided an advance courtesy screening of the completed film.

I bought the video many months ago sight unseen. It was produced by a guy who grew up as a JW but choose not to become one. He went on to college and majored in journalism.

The film is a documentary that chronicles the stories of two JW families.

The first is a young guy who has health issues and needs a organ (liver?) transplant. His JW father ends up donating it. The film shows the stress and worry of the family throughout the process. The film included interviews with all family members and the opposing grandma. The doctors who performed the surgery without blood were interviewed.

The second story was of an older Jewish man who survived the horrors of Nazi Germany in the concentration camps and was extremely impressed by the attitude and behavior of the JW’s in the camp. He was very impressed they could have been released by simply renouncing their faith, but they stood their ground. He later became a JW. Sometime during this German persecution, his wife died and he was left with a baby girl. He gave the girl to a relative to raise. The story include inside interview with he finally met his grown up daughter who was married and had a traditional Jewish family. The family travels back to Germany to see what their father dealt with in the death camps.

Additional interviews included various civil rights people reviewing all the cases JW had taken to the Supreme court, and the intense and violent persecution JW’s have recieved here in the US.

The movie is fine for JW’s and anyone else who isn’t a rabid JW hater.

Many people get a kick out of seeing the first JW kid playing guitar and listening to Van Halen music at the beginning of the show.

Thanks for the movie review Steve. I remembered about the movie most of the day but I fell asleep and didn’t wake up until the next day, so I missed it. DH and I were going to watch it, so maybe I’ll look it up on youtube.

The West, as I understand, due to certain disinformation has seen only MullahIslam or MullahShariah; the true face of Muhammad’sIslam and PromisedMessiahImamMahdi’sIslam is yet hidden from their eyes, which is truly speaking only peaceful.
 
I dont think that HellisReal is talking about the persons that make him sick rather what they teach. I personally welcome them and have challenged them in a loving way. They become agitated and soon leave, and although I have seen first hand their abrasiveness once they see it will not turn in their favor, I still am charitable as are alot of us here.
