1. It is addictive(for myself and many young people)
2. Its beat does not coincide with natural bodily rhythms, it is synchopated.
3. The music is repetitive and has no climax … it just pulsates endlessly. It is for solely for the body, not the mind nor the soul.
4. It takes little technical skill in comparison to other forms of music.
5. The pulsating beat causes the body to produce adrenaline and other sexual hormones, thus creating an occasion of sin … All one needs to do is go to any concert/dance where people are dancing seductively to see the evidence of the music’s beat. Been there, done that, not doing it again!
6. The glaringly obvious sub-culture that has developed out of today’s rock and rap culture.
7. It’s roots … Voodoo, the American sexual revolution, and many of the masterminds of the culture of death who perverted good music. Unfortunately, they know how to corrupt people, through their desire for musical pleasure.

2.) Nothing could be further from truth. the healthy normal human heart beats between 80 and 90 beats per minute. check out a hip hop song you can stand, how many beats per minute?
3.) I find listening to some good Hip Hop to be very edifying. It is for the mind but the mind isnt bad is it? Put the Gospel to a beat and its no longer just for the mind but also for the soul eh?
4.) Haha, while I agree that alot of main stream artists are lacking in the talent department, I am actually offended by this comment. While we do not play instruments(although Fr. Stan is a musical prodigy, he plays a plethora of different instruments. He literally is a one man band), writing lyrix, harmonizing the lyrics with a beat, this does require skill i would love to show you some of the songs the Lord has graced me with. To say that rap requires no skill is to demean wordsworth and shakespeare, we are poets.
5.) Playing Hockey or Baseball, Soccer, Snowboarding Skiing, even BOWLING they all cause the relesease of adrenaline and endorphins not to mention the countless daily, mundane things we do like driving in traffic. Does that make these things evil? Of course not. While i would agree that going to night clubs and grinding(what you call dancing seductivley) is sinful, I do not beleive that Christian Hip Hop promotes nor condones thsi type of atmosphere nor practice.
6.) I agree that there is a decadent sub culture among my generation, trust me I know better than anyone. And it is to these that I and we aree trying to reach with the truth and the Gospel. The fact that there is evil in the secularized sub culture i am not disputing, but this does not make the music evil.
7.) Lol Hip Hop did not come to us from voodoo, that is a statement made from ignorance. It is clear that you are not familiar with the origins of Hip Hop, might I share with you to correct your misunderstanding?
Hip hop arose in New York City when DJs began isolating the percussion break from funk or disco songs. The role of the emcee (MC) arose to introduce the DJ and the music, and to keep the audience excited. The MCs began by speaking between songs, giving exhortations to dance, greetings to audience members, jokes and anecdotes. Eventually, this practice came to be more stylized, and was known as rapping. (Wikipedia) You could say Hip Hop takes its origins form soul, funk, rythym and blues and blues music. I wouldn’t say voodoo though.

You know what? You could take every other contemporary Christian artist and throw them in with this guy because the sound is of the “spirit of the world.” We live in THIS age, and era pretty much defines our culture. Culture changes and so will we. God forbid we come to terms with cultural and artistic growth!!

Fr. Stan, though I have not ever heard of him before this very hour, seems dedicated to the Gospel and our Lord. He is NOT on MTV (not that that would even be a horrible thing). He does not endorse empty words nor does he LIMIT HIS REACH when it comes to spreading the gospel. He is rather gifted and speaks to people WHERE THEY ARE, not unlike Jesus, at all.

Why the heck is this such a problem? I’m not going to address all of your points…Quite frankly its past one in the morning and fighting over what a given form of artistic expression entails is the last thing on my “to do” list.

In a few years, my Christian Metal band should be on the road, God willing. You’re all invited to come see us!
