So what’sn the dif between knowing Jesus and knowing of Jesus. HOw can one build up our faith in the spirit of God?

I think John 15:4 says it best:
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.
🙂

🙂
So which way are you lending when you say that?
My question is asking which leads to in the form of a relationship, is it knowing, or knowing of ?
Which will lead us astray

“Knowing-of” Christ is probably the initial or first-step of entering into a life of Christ. Though I’m sure there are those out there in the world who don’t know who Christ is, yet still live a Christ-like life. One the other hand, I know many people who “know-of” Christ, yet do nothing about it, and definately do not reflect that “knowledge” in their opinions and actions.

Getting to know Christ intimately, through study of scripture, through the Sacraments, through His Mother, and especially through the Eucharist is instrumental in growing in holiness. Attending Mass and practicing devotionals draws us to a closer understanding of who He is.

But I think most importantly, we must abide (live) in Christ, and he will abide (live) in us (which is done most profoundly in the Eucharist). By “living” in Christ, we can only be naturally bound towards allowing those fruits of His Grace to be manifest in our lives. We identify not only with His humanity, but his sufferings. Seeing these in Christ, we can make a more concerted effort in imitating him and being more like him. Being able to know about those graces given by Him gives us a keener awareness to His promise to us - acting upon those graces will not only show the fruits of those graces, but draw us closer to the perfection (without sin) Our Lord yearns for us.

To “know” Christ is to love him. To “know-of” Christ can lead to love of Christ, but unless someone has a commitment of love to Him, you can get blown all over the place!

I hope that helps - God bless!🙂

In that case would it be right to say that satan knows of God, but because of his hatrid of God’s love and God Himself satan could not and will never know God or God’s love!

Yes - we unite our will to love God with God’s love for us. That’s something that satan could never do!

Guess that’s why he’s in hell - forever separate from God. Misery sure loves company - that’s why he tries his best to get others to join him, too.

Knowing of someone and know someone are two different things.

To know a person, you must have direct encounter and interaction with the person.Otherwise, your knowledge about the person is just superficial knowledge, without depth and truth. When you have contact and two-way communication with the person, you start to get to know the person.

Our relationship with Jesus is the same. Even we attend Mass and read our Bible, it does not mean we automatically know Jesus. We can attend Mass with an absent mind and don’t really understand the meaning of Mass. We can read Bible just like read a story book without true understanding or reflection.

The following things are helpful to know Jesus better - some concrete ways to abide in Jesus :

• Read our Bible with prayer, asking the Holy Spirit help us understand Jesus’ life, his words, his works, his Passion, and his commandments.

• Know each part of Mass and its significance. Attend Mass with our full attention and whole heart so we may truly benefit from it.

• Pray daily day and night, not only with our words, but with our hearts to listen, so we can have two way communication with God.

• Receive Sacraments – Holy Communion and frequent Confession so we can have abundant grace from God.

• Eucharist Adoration – ideally daily - it will transform our lives.

• Have personal encounter with Jesus so we really get to know Him.
With a grateful heart, everyone is able to experience the mercy and goodness of our Lord. The more our hearts are full of thanks and praises, the easier we may experience the reality of the great person of Jesus.

Make all efforts to know our Lord Jesus well. Jesus is the ultmost blessing in one’s life.

Hi Littleone,
For a long time I knew of Jesus, but was non-practicing. If it wasn’t for Jesus sending the Holy Spirit as a saving gift, I would not know Jesus as much as He has revealed Himself to me. Now I know Him as love and mercy. Now that I am practicing again , I am learning about His nature in the Trinity and coming to know of Him more, but think that “knowing Him” is a gift that comes as we need it as not to replace the faith and belief we have in Him. He said to Thomas “blessed is he who believes without seeing”. We can build up our faith by nurturing our belief and not expecting results to manifest on earth. The Saints give us testimony of His gifts, we have the Bible, we have the faith that our Priest are guiding us by the Holy Spirit. We just have to let go and believe in the promise’s of Christ. Tim
