Hi,
I’ve recently discovered that Baronius Press are planning a new edition of it, is there anywhere online I can read it for the time being? Sorry if this has been asked already!

Matt

To my knowledge, the Knox bible is not online. You can find used copies on ebay, although I think the New Testament is still in print. Check amazon.com for that. I was thinking about putting this back into print. It would have be printed in two volumes, though. (due to the publisher’s page limits) What do you think?

Had Baronius Press not beaten you to it, I’d have said go for it!🙂

Sometimes I struggle with the Douay Rheims, due to its old style language. On the other hand sometimes I like this aspect of it, makes it sort of like the Catholic KJV in that it adds more ‘flavour’ to what the scriptures are saying, the phrases it employs have that ‘timeless’ feel to them, and I also trust it for its accuracy.

But because I often struggle with the language, I’m excited about the Knox, which I believe is a slightly more modernised form of language than the DR, and as far as I know, the last Bible version directly traslated completely from the Vulgate. I say slightly more modernised because Knox still uses Thee’s and Thou’s, am I right? The original JB is still my favourite, although, another bible version into the collection cant hurt!!

Yeah, Baronius has beautiful books. It would be great to see them do it. It would also be nice if they would deliver that Latin-English Breviary they have been promising for a couple of years.

The Spoken New Testament read by the Rev. Hugh Thwaites SJ

The Knox translation of the New Testament has much to recommend it for its lucid style and freshness, and for clarifying many of the passages that were obscure in former translations. It lends itself admirably to the requirements of the listener.

Why can’t you publish it in one volume? I have an old copy of the complete Knox Bible, Old & New Testaments, in a nice medium size with decent size print.

I hope someone puts it back into print. The New Testament is available, but not the whole Bible. Usually, when I see it on eBay, it is very expensive.

Matt,

it is not online, but the New Testament at least is still in print. You may purchase it here: amazon.com/New-Testament-Ronald-Knox/dp/0872432297/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1201716064&sr=8-2

I hope you are correct about Baronius publishing the complete Knox Bible, that is exciting.

Check their site, they claim it’s in preparation now! Hopefully it won’t take as long as their ‘motu proprio’ edition missal, I ordered one and waited forever for it!

Thanks for the links, but I’ll wait for the full bible from Baronius.

I would not be able to publish it one volume because the Knox Bible (at least the one I have) is 1200 pages. The publisher has a page limit of 800. This is assuming a facsimile reprint would be published.

Found myself a copy of the New Testament on eBay for quite cheap, it can tide me over until Baronius brings out their full version 🙂
