Of course I am. His excommunication was not for heresy per se but for disobedience to his Jesuit Superior and to Boston Archbishop Richard Cardinal Cushing. 20 years later he was reconciled to Rome by Humberto Cardinal Medeiros. The Sacred Congregation for the Defence of the Faith explicitly allowed Fr. Feeney and his followers to continue upholding their strict interpretation of the dogma of extra ecclesiam nulla salus. The Feeneyites even have permission to raise money as a Catholic organization. They are eccentric, yes, but not heretical.
Quote to me a passage where I said his statements were heretical… I said schismatic. Do you have any idea of the difference between schism, heresy and apostasy? I beginning to think you don’t.

From the article I quoted earlier:
Fr. Feeney himself, beset with the mental and physical ailments of old age, was reportedly “reconciled” to the Church on November 22, 1972 in the St. Thomas More Bookstore in Cambridge, with the help of a group of members of the Center and some very indulgent diocesan officials. These officials neither pressed Fr. Feeney for a recantation of his theological errors nor even an apology for the harm he may have caused the faithful.

After the meeting, curiously enough, Fr. Feeney reportedly published a letter claiming that he had retracted nothing and still believed in the formula “no salvation outside the Church” as he always had. In any case, Fr. Leonard J. Feeney died at the age of 80 on January 30, 1978 and is buried in the Center’s graveyard in Still River. The inscription on his tombstone reads extra ecclesiam nulla salus.(Michael J. Mazza, Extra Ecclesiam Nulla Salus: Father Feeney Makes a Comeback)
As Vatican II states:
“For they who without their own fault do not know of the Gospel of Christ and His Church, but yet seek God with sincere heart, and try, under the influence of grace, to carry out His will in practice, known to them through the dictate of conscience, can attain eternal salvation.”(Para. 16, Lumen Gentium)
As the Father William Most, noted Theologian states:
When Feeney was old, some church authorities out of sorrow for him, let him be reconciled to the Church. As part of the unfortunate looseness we se so often today, they did not demand that he recant. So he did not. As a result, some former followers of his came back to the Church. Others even today insist that the lack of demanding a recantation meant Feeney had been right all along. Of course not. We have proved that abundantly with official texts above and the texts of the Fathers of the Church.

This is a sidebar to Sede Vacantism. Are you just trying to aggitate people? If so I will report this thread.

Thank You.
You did misunderstand me. I apologize if I did not make myself clear. When I wrote the title to the thread “Heresies of JPII” I was trying to be short and attention-getting. The site I linked to is about “Heresies of JPII”. It’s kind of like starting a thread to talk about an article entitled “Planned Parenthood is Great”. The article says Planned Parenthood is Great, but not me. I was referencing the subject matter, not my personal opinion.

I have run into a lot of hateful talk toward the Pope and was wondering how others handle it. This was my reason.

O.K. It sure seemed wierd to me. But the title, I’m sure you can understand, was misleading. Thanks for the clarification. 🙂

Why are some people so hateful?

Some try to find the truth, others seem to look for the bad.

What do you all think of this?

Talk about a troll, the originator of this thread hasn’t even posted a follow-up. Talk about chumming the water and the sitting back and watching the sharks come out.

Actually the original poster has responded and clarified. Check above your post for his/her reply. 🙂 The intent of the thread was not Scurrilous as they explained. The sharks tend to bite without checking who’s ankle they grab sometimes. 😉
