In our hospitals, it is the poor who are being advised and counseled more and more towards abortions,” he said.
Now it’s going to happen, also, I’m sorry to say, with the elderly, the most poor and most vulnerable.
Of course the two are related and we shouldn’t be surprised. The liberal element invents teachings of Jesus such as ‘gun control’ but supports a political ideology that is laying waste to life issues. The gun is just a tool that may be used for evil purposes just like the scalpel and forceps are tools that may be used for evil purposes. What needs to be addressed is the why, and not the how of evil actions. The biggest why being that if we are not respectful of life at it’s conception than we should not be surprised when there is no concern for life at other stages whether it’s a gun, redefining marriage or pulling a plug.

Pope Francis alludes to the same concerning ‘climate control’…
Since everything is interrelated, concern for the protection of nature is also incompatible with the justification of abortion. How can we genuinely teach the importance of concern for other vulnerable beings, however troublesome or inconvenient they may be, if we fail to protect a human embryo, even when its presence is uncomfortable and creates difficulties? If personal and social sensitivity towards the acceptance of the new life is lost, then other forms of acceptance that are valuable for society also wither away.

That is precisely why I left California after 20+ years. That state is so far off the deep end; it’s really really sad.

California is the fifth state to enact this law and approximately 20 other states are somewhere in the process. It isn’t California going off the deep end; I think this will be similar to gay marriage in that a few key states will legalize it and others will follow in due time.

The country never tries to get closer to God–each new steps puts us farther away. California is definitely going over the deep end regarding morality, but so is the country and the west culture in general.

You have a point, it’s not just California on this issue, but California is so progressive on nearly everything the place becomes more unlivable each year. There’s hardly anything over there they don’t have a law for.

I love living here, as do my friends and neighbors. The unlivable part, to me, is the cost of living, rather than the diversity and politics. Diversity and politics are what makes it such an interesting place to hang my hat.

As to the topic at hand, perhaps it is time to not only pray but also to come to terms with the fact that many states and countries have made legal the medical means to end a life that is imminently terminal. So how do we care pastorally for those at end of life and considering aid in dying? If God is part of this person’s life, how does the faith community respond?

It is the new reality. We need to know how to care.

The culture of death just keeps rolling on. First, we legalized the killing of unborn babies, next the killing of the sick and elderly; first it will be voluntary, next it will become part of standard medical practice and insurance will pay for the killing. Next comes infanticide.

What do we do with the sick and terminally ill? We care for them. We mitigate their pain. We give them palliative care. We don’t just kill them. But it’s coming. No one is safe. Be careful not to get too depressed. It may be a reason for killing you off.

Would you expect any less of a modern day Babylon?

What ‘amuses’ me was some of my facebook friends who support abortion and the “assisted suicide” bills freaking out at how horrible the new movie is that promotes suicide for disabled people too.

They made the slippery slope and we told them where it would end up.
