As many readers know, Christina Grimmie, who performed on the US version of The Voice, was murdered after a concert in Orlando Florida. This happened shortly before the terrorist attack on an Orlando nightclub, so news coverage came and went quickly.

Unfortunately, a similar shooting has just happened in Chicago. A performer on the Mexican version of The Voice (La Voz) was murdered after attending a birthday party in his honor.
Alejandro Jano Fuentes, 45, died Saturday afternoon, two days after he was shot in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
Fuentes was shot in the head several times in the 4300 block of South Archer.
The attack happened late Thursday around 10:15 p.m. Friends said they were celebrating the 45-year-old’s birthday at his Tras Bambalinas School.

Fuentes appeared on the Mexican version of a popular singing competition in 2011. Friends say despite his successes, he remained committed to exposing young people, especially neighborhood kids to the arts.

I fear that his death will attract even less attention that that of Ms. Grimmie, so I mention it here. It is an very sad parallel to all of the violence afflicting our country. 😦
