But you have already eaten !

I mean, you’ve already sinned, right?

Then* that’s it*: you’re not subject of the general punishment for no reason.
I probably have more dificulty with this part of the Bible than any other part. It just seems to me that God should have created all the people of the world at one time and placed them all in the Garden of Eden and anyone who decided to eat the fruit than that individual would be exiled from the garden. However, it wasn’t fair for Jesus to go to the cross either… because he was sinless.

No person is born deserving of hell. The Catholic understanding differs greatly from the Protestant understanding of original sin. Aside from all the technicalities, the surface, “how does it affect me” answer to the question of how they differ is that Protestants (in general) teach that each baby is born deserving of hell, whereas the Catholic Church teaches that no person deserves hell until he or she actually commits a sin him or herself, but that nobody is born deserving of Heave, either.

This is actually where the hypothesis of Limbo comes in. Limbo is technically Hell, but it is a part of Hell without any of the pains or tortures–it would be a paradise, but lacking the beatic vision.

No one will go to Heaven if original sin has not been cleansed from them (ie if sanctifying grace has not been restored to their soul). That’s an objective fact that has been expressly defined by the Church (Council of Florenc). Now, does God grant unbaptized infants who die special graces? Maybe yes, maybe no–this is why the Church doesn’t say “unbaptized babies go to Heaven;” but rather she “entrusts them to God’s mercy” and encourages us to baptize as soon as possible.

Thanks guys for all your responses. So is it fair to say that there really isnt such a think called a curse? Was this a word the author used to strongly convey the message of Genesis?
