I had a sobering experience as I traded at a street market today, one that was reflected at the time of the referendum re same sex marriage here in Ireland when I saw women torn emotionally apart by their love for family members and their duty to the Church. I did nto fully realise that few seem to actually know why same marriage is wrong ( forgive please any clumsy expression… very tired indeed) The lady today was certainly Catholic, probably with little education and a family person. Her words re this were " Jesus loves everyone." and suddenly it made sense. I was a teacher long ago and thankfully my skill came back and I explained very simply and clearly that YES He does love everyone, but asks a certain way of life from those who love Him. That marriage is between a man and a woman and that we must not have sex outside marriage and that sex between same sex people is not allowed IF we love Jesus and obey Him, that this is in the Bible, She had never heard this. And the gay lobby plays so heavily on the “Jesus loves everyone” words. She listened then said, " It is very complicated" and I replied that no it is very simple. IF we love Jesus then we will obey Him. It has affected so much; I remember in the run up to the referendum one priest explained these things clearly to his parishioners and said they should not vote yes and members walked out. Sigh…
