Why have there been seemingly a lack of miracles in the past 50 years? Padre Pio seems to be the last great miracle worker. Any thoughts?

I also heard of this revelation of Mary (1940s?) cutting off many miracles in the last days. Has anyone heard of this?

How do you know that there has been a "seemingly a lack of miracles in the past 50 years?" Miracles aren’t always the parting of the Red Sea, they can often be very sublime occurrences. I have no doubt that Jesus is still very much with us.

I guess I mean miracle workers. There seems to be a lack of those today

Perhaps because those who have been given the blessing to work legitimate miracles are humble and do not advertise on Craig’s List?

Malleus: Well - that depends on who you talk to. Miracles happen at Lourdes every single year and are chronicled there. Some people who have been cured dont advertise it because they are ridiculed. One man cured of cancer at Lourdes wrote that his doctors dont consider him cured only “in remission” and its now been over 10 years so he said doesnt even pursue it any longer. There are testimonies of miracles at Guadalupe and Fatima as well. But there are just as many people who scoff at it so its all relative.

In addition - every single good confession is likewise a miracle in a spiritual sense. The Spiritually blind and lame and weak and leperous are daily healed. And this is the greater miracle. The body will die but the soul is eternal.

I understand what you mean. Sometimes I feel like we are not worthy of God revealing Himself to us in His full glory. I also feel like “Where are those amazing miracles that are ancestors had the priviliage to witness?”.
But I think it’s like Pax was miracles are seen in different parts of the world but since we live in such a hectic world we have no time to a appricate them or search for them. Maybe God is giving this curiosity so that you can look at and appriciate the subtle miracles of life. Like waking up in the morning.

I can see that maybe there aren’t enough good will people out there. Usually when God works miracles, He works them for those who would see the evidence of God’s intervention and convert. God sees that miracles will not change them, so He would not do them in ways conceivable to us.

I do believe we are living in the last days.

Malleus: If I were to contract leukemia - I would have no qualms about going to Lourdes or to Mugnano though. Even if I were to succumb to it should GOD decide no miracle is forthcoming and that the suffering was sent to expiate my sins. Ultimately - GOD is going to do what is in our best interests when we turn to him. Even if we dont understand why. I believe in miracles. The many Miracles of the Holy Eucharist and the Incorruptables like St Bernadette come to mind as well.

Yes, I think the Western culture has been desensitized from appreciating the obvious and small miracles God grants to us. I think it is a consequent of our lack of good will and charity, that God refuses to give the evidence of His working grace.

That or maybe it’s just God telling us that he’s not some genie who has to fix our problems all the time. These days I find that the real miracle are the gifts of my mind and my two working hands. My mind is there to formulate the means to my goal and my hands carve the path.

Now those are some things that we (even myself) take too much for granted.

there are probably hundreds of miracles but people are blind to God’s work in the world and do not see, or do not admit the source of it if they do see

Several of my friends and I have prayed to St. Anthony of Miracles to help us find lost objects…

and they are always were we looked before.

Also, I think the Eucharist is a HUGE miracle, and it happens thousands of time a day all across the world. 👍

Are you talking about the really miraculous miracles? Like Fatima? or are you interested in the small ones?

Hi,
As has been said by Father John Corapi "The dead are raised to life every time a sinner repents through Reconciliation/Confession–That’s a Miracle! The absolution of sin by the priest actually raises the dead… something to think about, eh? Beautiful!

Malleus: Precisely. Which is the Greater miracle for a man to walk or for his sins to be forgiven. That is one of the reasons I love that passage about the paralyttic handed down through the roof. Yes our LORD healed him. But he healed him by telling him his sins were forgiven.

And as for the person who doubts St Anthony - yes people pray for him to Petition God to find lost articles. And if they were lost and you have looked several places and then after praying to him - he petitions GOD who knows all and he sends grace to spur you to look where it was last left - then you have regained the lost article in a time frame. A miracle? Well certainly we can either scoff at GOD working in our lives or we can accept that GOD works in our lives. All I know is that I invoke the Saints and they have done several favors for me. So I really dont care if people believe me or not. There is not a single medium to large city in the United States that you cannot pick up a newspaper and see a published thank you to St Jude for promises answered. So petitioning the Saints may be scoffed at by some - but to me its their loss.

Rght now, today, Catholics are waiting for miracles to be attributed to Pope John Paul II. Whenever you read that the Pope elevated someone to sainthood, that usually means at least two miracles are attributed to them. I doubt the secular press wants to give religious types too much encouragement.

I’ll mention a few recent miracles I read about:

A man with a serious eye condition was praying about his surgery for the following day. It would either improve his sight or not improve it. There was a chance he would be blind. He simply said: “If you could help I would appreciate it.” The next day, the doctor examined him and said, “What did you do?” The man told him that he had done nothing. The eyes had improved so much that he did not need the surgery. The doctor declared it was impossible.

The captain of a submarine was struck near the surface by a Japanese ship. As his sub began to sink, he realized there were men trapped in another compartment. He had to open a door to let them out. Problem was, to open the door he would have to overcome the force of tons of seawater. He prayed to a particular person, saw a bright light and opened the door. The men were saved. Experts from the Navy said that what he did was impossible.

The image of Our Lady of Guadalupe is preserved on a cactus fiber cloak that should have fallen apart long ago. Photographic experts have said that it has more in common with a color photo than a painting. There was an attempt to destroy it in the past. An explosive was placed by it but did not harm it. Experts have also examined the eyes and found images reflected onto them as if they were actual human eyes.

Remember, every time you hear someone was canonized, miracles occurred. The secular press scoffs. But God knows the depth of our unbelief. He knows how mired we are in thinking that we can do all things by our own power alone. How we are so used to thinking that only what we experience every day is all there is. We may believe in God but deny His power in our own lives.

Prayer has an effect, for ourselves and those we pray for.

God bless,
Ed

If you need to see a miracle every day, go to Mass…the miracle happens at the Consecration…

I feel that I get miracles in my life daily. The miracle to be able to press on when I have so many mental illness problems. If it was not for my faith I would not be able to be here. I think just as many miracles are happening these days, but like Malleus said these miracles are often ridiculed and people often tell them it wasn’t a miracle at all. I think people are just being more quiet about what happens to them these days as we are living in different times.
