I hope this is the right place for this post. I am pretty new.

I attended a Catholic wedding last Saturday. The church was stunning, with a beautiful alterpiece, high valuted ceiling, and huge organ in the loft. It was the first time in a long time I have been to a wedding in a church, since so many couples prefer to get married in a garden local now, and I was so looking forward to it.

Well, it just seemed like no one wanted to sing or say the prayers. My sister and I did, but I could tell she felt like I did, “Why isn’t anyone joining in?” I could barely hear my niece (in law) right next to me.

During the Liturgy of the Eurcharist the priest asked everyone to either knee or sit. I figured this was to allow those non-Catholics (or fallen away Catholics) to feel comfortable, although I thought it showed a lack of reverence and that all should be kneeing at least in respect of the Mass. It was sort of weird for me because I was kneeling and the people in front of me were sitting, so my head was between their two heads.

Just wondering what others think of this.

Weddings and funerals always bring together people from all kinds of faith backgrounds — Catholics (devout ones and lackadaisical ones), other Christians, searchers, non-believers … We can only pray that some of their hearts may be touched by what they see/hear/experience during the liturgy, and that someday they will come to know God and love the Mass as you do. God’s not done with them yet!
