Ladies: Is this true?

Oh I totally know it’s normal and not wrong. Far too many people around here seem to think it is wrong.

Though I know it is normal and not sinful to have an involuntary erection at the site of a female, I was simply clearing up that it isn’t even something that keeps happening to all men every time they’re at the beach or the pool. Some people (who probably didn’t grow up around warm weather) seem to think it is.

I think I understand.

My family is a figure skating family, and my husband still figure skates. He is constantly around women (very few men in the sport) who are wearing tight-fitting leotards, skating dresses, Mondors, etc., and who look very very lovely (and long-legged). He doesn’t have to struggle with suppressing sexual arousal symptoms, because he’s so used to seeing women like this.

This discussion reminds me of something that used to happen all the time back when my daughters were on the elite skating team. At one of the practice rinks, their locker room (dressing room) was separated from the lobby by a large steel partition that slid up and down (cheap). Many times, the girls (ages 14-18) would simply change in the locker room whether the partition was up or not. I’m not talking nudity, but many of the girls were comfortable pulling off their shirts (sports bras underneath) and pulling on their sweaters, even though dads and moms were sitting in the lobby and able to see them. Or they would pull their tights off and pull their jeans on (panties revealed).

And we have pictures of our daughter and several of her friends in their hotel rooms having a “bra beauty contest.” They had no objection to showing those pictures to the parents. Of course, figure skating teams (synchro) become “family” to each other, so maybe all the girls felt like they had 20 moms and 20 dads.

Isn’t this a problem with pornography? What is very arousing the first time loses its power after repeated views, so the person looks at more porn with more shocking images, and then continues to go down, down, down into more perverted images in their attempt to repeat the same thrill that they got when they first started looking at porn.

I see what you’re getting at, but porn is wrong regardless. Porn is inherently sinful and dirty. The human body, however, in and of itself is not.

After all, we learned how to become “tolerant” and “desensitized” to seeing women’s ankles, right? Men in indigenous African tribes are desensitized from seeing a women’s chest. Meanwhile, it would probably be very arousing for a Saudi guy to see a women in a t shirt and jeans. Is this comparable to going from soft porn to hard porn? I definitely wouldn’t say so.

I don’t think we can really compare the human body to pornography in the way you are doing so above.

I wasn’t specifically saying a girl and boy should be in the same locker room. I was speaking in general terms about why its ok for a lesbian / bisexual to see you in the buff anywhere versus a guy.

Regardless I got the whole truth now. Apparently my gf and one of her looser friends (female) wanted to know what an orgasm felt like and how to get one. Her friend gave her the BS line that girls need to know how to do it so they can instruct the guy properly. They didn’t think it was wrong since there was no “spilling of seed” and helped each other out. She apologized, cried like a baby, and said she was confused. Yeah…she isn’t the only one. Pardon me while I go barf.

Guys can understand the difference between nudity and sexual arousal. Its our puritanical culture that can’t accept it. My mom had my younger sister when I was 6 and I remember her breastfeeding her. She did not use the blanket at home and both my parents talked to me about the facts of life then. I think breasts are beautiful but not necessarily cause for an erection unless a woman is doing something to INTENTIONALLY make them sexual. For instance, if a guy is sitting down a woman leans over him with a low neck line and devious smile that might be a problem. Likewise if a woman in a bikini starts gyrating her hips in a suggestive way also a potential problem. Pornography is not about nudity. Its about sexual acts. Nudity just happens to be a requirement. Desensitization to sexual acts is the problem.

Ever hear of the “Lactation of St. Bernard?” When I showed one of my Catholic friends that he nearly had a heart attack. This paranoia about nudity is more a result of the protestant / Puritan way of thinking in the US. It is also not Catholic from my understanding.

Great post! And yeah, I especially agree with the second bolded part. I’m originally from Brazil, the country with the largest population of Catholics on earth, and I can say that there is a much less puritanical view of the human body there. People don’t obsess over a woman walking by in shorts and a tank top on a hot day. Men wear speedos to the beach, and no one thinks it’s weird or funny looking. Family members and close friends breast feed their babies in front of each other without a second thought. Heck, up until I was 5 years old, I was running around the beach topless, like every other little girl my age!

While these actions would be considered scandalous in an inappropriate “sexual” type of way here in the US, they were completely innocent down in South America. You’re totally right about the puritanical/protestant mentality of the US.

Glad you made that decision. She showed her lack of character in that experience although it was good that she finally came clean to you (maybe). Best to let her go.

When I was in middle school and high school, we were always looking for ways to get out of showering after gym. Even when I was on the basketball team, we tended to insist we would just shower when we got home.

For me, I think it was just how I was raised. Modesty was very big at home. I wasn’t allowed to see naked women or naked men. It was ok when you were little, but once you got past a certain age, everyone needed their complete privacy. It didn’t seem to have anything to do with sex. If anything, my body just became a very personal and private thing. If anything, it had more to do with not wanting my body compared and scrutnized.

I don’t care about others seeing me naked in a change room, although I don’t just waltz around naked in there. If someone does have a SSA and is overly curious about staring at me, I would probably make a more conscious effort to cover up. In general I notice that most of us just don’t make eye contact while we’re in there.

Men and women both can fall victim to lust.
