Everyone has already voiced my sentiments when it comes to important qualities.
I think the list changes and ages with the particular woman, depending on what stage of life she was at.
My so-called “list” at 18 was radically different from the list I had when I met my husband at 24.
By the age of 24 I was living on my own and holding down a full time job with actual adult responsibilities.
Physical attractiveness dropped down the list substantially in comparison to responsibility, maturity and compatibility.
At 18 years old I was over the moon when this really good-looking guy I had a massive crush on asked me out on a date. We went out and it didn’t work out.
He was older, had a job and was more experienced with girls and life in general…it seemed.
At 18, I was able to overlook the fact that he had a couple of DUIs, liked to party a little too hard and was terrible with money.
At 24, I would have turned down that date.
Things that made me attracted to my husband?
-He was in the military and a devote Christian (not Catholic…yet!) and had just come back from a tour in Iraq. For me, this demonstrated his general character.
-He was fantastic with finances.
-He didn’t have a degree at the time but he was very smart.
-He was respectful and mature for his age.
-Weirdly enough, the fact that he was engaged before he met me…but the two of them broke it off…told me he was serious about his relationships. He had only one girlfriend prior to me and had been with her for several years. She wasn’t ready to get married and broke it off.
-He was and is trustworthy.
-He wanted to be a parent and was excited about having kids.
-I’ll throw it in here…he was a GREAT kisser.
One can learn an awful lot about a person just by the way they kiss.
French kissing too.
I’ve kissed my fair share of young men (I dated a lot in my early twenties). The best kissers made me want to go out with them again.
A poor kisser made me second guess my intentions and the attraction level went down.
If he is gentle but still takes the lead and it doesn’t feel awkward or strained…it demonstrates confidence but also shows how much he cares and respects her.
BTW there is absolutely nothing wrong or sinful about a couple who French kisses before marriage…it’s perfectly fine and isn’t a sign of broken chastity or an indication that a couple will struggle with chastity. I think that is dated and unrealistic to expect from a couple who is seriously considering marriage.
Intimacy can and should be developed before a marriage begins.
