Definitely praying. Be at peace. God takes the worst of our lives and makes it beautiful.
 
Praying for you and for your family that the Lord, our provider will give you all that you need and also the graces necessary to know what you must do. He is looking after you!

Having been unemployed or laid off more frequently than most I have discovered one important thing: to worry is easy, to enjoy the change is difficult; if I were to have reversed that and worried less and enjoyed the change more, I would have used my time wiser and bounced back quicker.

Also, if you have bills, let your companies know what you are going through–some might give you a small reprieve or re-finance…it doesn’t hurt to ask.

Be patient with waiting for unemployment. Don’t be afraid to scrimp and save and use a food bank if necessary.

Have hope. A decrease in income does not have to mean a decrease in hope, of character, of respect. Write up your assets and accomplishments for your new resume. Make 3 X 5 cards for your next interview (it’s perfectly legal and appropriate to use them) and list examples of all of your contributions at your jobs and accomplishments.

I have no accomplishments, but I have updated my resume and am applying for work.

This is my 3rd time on the unemployment-go-round myself.

The thing is, my boss specifically told me 10 days ago that I wasn’t being laid off. I specifically asked him. He always had problems with me. One time, my cologne was too strong. Another time, the food I was eating was too smelly. And he always brought up the fact that I had a college education and he didn’t. I just did my job. That’s all I wanted to do. Now I hear he might challenge my unemployment claim. Its unbelievable what is going on .

I had thought about writing him a letter and telling him what I thought about him, because he didn’t have the guts to lay me off on Monday (he had a subordinate do it). But I’m not going to do that. It is just hard not to be upset at this…

It’s probably best not to write the letter Norm640. It will not accomplish anything, and it will just make him angrier. Be the bigger man and just let it go. I know that might be hard given your current situation. 😦

I know fully what you are feeling and experiencing…it happened to me also, and right at the time that a family member’s health started to go downhill fast.

I’m still not employed yet, but continue to pray that Our Lord will show His plan to me. Some days are terrible, some are stressful, but some are also peaceful. The more that I pray, the more that I see the “bigger” picture. So may it be with you…

Believe in Him, and turn your prayers to Him. It is the way…

It sounds like you’re better off not working for this man. And I don’t think he can legally challenge your unemployment since he laid you off, you didn’t quit. It sounds like he wants to give you another kick in the pants for good measure. How sad for him! He needs our prayers. Writing him to tell him off will only harm you and do nothing to him, since he seems impervious to good taste and common sense. Let it go and give him to God.

I also wanted to advise you to take all the temporary work you can get. It will extend your unemployment benefits and it will look good to potential employers that you didn’t just sit and wait for the “perfect job” to come along. It shows you are willing to work and are taking positive steps in building your career.
