Laity joining in blessings at Mass?

We raise our right hand in blessing. It is usually done for couples celebrating anniversaries. I don’t let the thought of 1940 Germany enter my head at these times. It is not relevant.
LOL! I usually raise my hands as well, although I do it more of like a person raising their right hand to take an oath. I try not to let “The thoughts of 1940 Germany enter my head” as you put it so well, but sometimes I can’t help but slightly chuckle at the sight of 200 people standing with their right arms sticking straight out in front of them…ah well…
 
I am bad. It makes me laugh and I enjoy the “sieg heil” blessing.
I think it’s hilarious it doesn’t occur to them they have the congregation giving the Nazi salute to bless an old couple…
