So, I know I’m a big complainer and pretty much any one who frequents this and the parenting forum knows exactly how I feel about eco-breastfeeding and LAM (hint: it’s a crack theory that is totally unreliable).
I also thought I was getting some clear as day signs that I’m ovulating. Stretchy mucus and an open/soft cervix.
This has been going on non-stop for the past 2-3 weeks but no period.
I’m 6 weeks PP and I would have gotten my period by now…seeing that it happened with my last two babies at 4 and 5 weeks PP.
I’m not charting right now…we’re just abstaining. We can’t afford to buy a monitor…not for another few months…and we’re cool with just abstaining until then.
But I figured I’d throw this out there to the Catholic mom experts here. How in the world do you know that you aren’t ovulating while PP and nursing?
Do you just assume you won’t get your period? Is there any kind of protocol to follow? Is there a time limit for weeks gone by without a cycle?
Or do you just not have any signs at all…ie: no mucus, hard and closed cervix…etc.
I’ve looked in my own books and around the web and have found nothing…just a claim that breast feeding…especially EBF…virtually guarantees no cycles.
Here are some general nursing stats to consider.
-She is a good nurser with a good latch and has been since she was out of me and on my chest…she gains weight well.
-Not using EBF at all. No co-sleeping, no using me as a pacifier on a regular basis and I do pump out bottles for her on the couple of days a week she is with a sitter for a few hours while I’m at school.
-I do nurse her at night…but that is stretching out to longer periods of time (last night was nearly 8 hours without nursing).
Good candidate for LAM…on paper…but I’m really skeptical and I will not be risking a pregnancy at all.
I’m just really curious as to how LAM actually works and how do you tell you won’t get a cycle.
Should I just assume any mucus at all means I’m ovulating, even if I go months without a period?
